APS 6 Senior Policy Officer About the Position
The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of processes to protect high priority research central to Australian research and development. The role involves activities to identify and assess risks affecting the department's funded research, collaboration with universities and other stakeholders to ensure adequate risk management, and the development and maintenance of policy and program frameworks to protect research security.
The department is currently looking for an additional team member to support the development and implementation of policy and program frameworks to ensure new legislative responsibilities are effectively addressed. These are intended to ensure that the Minister is adequately supported to exercise legislative powers in relation to national security, defence and international relations.
Duties & Tasks In this position, the Senior Policy Officer may be expected to: undertake research and critical analysis to support the development of policy frameworks to inform due diligence activities. facilitate implementation of changes to grants management processes and systems. lead procurement, financial and/or contract management activities to support the engagement of external advisory services. contribute to the development of communications, outreach and engagement products targeted to research sector stakeholders. liaise with diverse internal line areas to co-ordinate implementation of policy and program frameworks. prepare briefing for senior stakeholders, including the Minister for Education, the Board, the Chief Executive Officer, and the senior executive. contribute to ongoing business-as-usual due diligence activities, as required. Required Skills & Knowledge Skills and knowledge relevant to this role: analytical, research and problem-solving skills to address changing policy, program and legislative requirements. highly developed project management capacities, including a proven ability to effectively manage competing responsibilities within the context of defined timeframes. demonstrated skill in establishing and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. experience with Australian Government procurement and contract management policies and processes. understanding of grants administration frameworks, processes and systems. excellent written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail and the ability to prepare high quality briefing.
