of Vacancies:1 Closing Date: 12 Jan 2025 AEDT About the position Commencing in January 2025, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Cadet Environmental Planning Officer to join our organisation.
This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

In this role, you will build upon your studies by gaining practical experience and training in environmental planning within a local government context.
You will be provided with a comprehensive learning experience, allowing you the application of theoretical knowledge in a practical work environment.
You will have a training plan developed specifically for you, giving you the opportunity to assist in strategic land use planning, reviewing development proposals, preparing sustainability and resilience strategies and policies, Landcare and community education programs.
This entry-level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Council's Environmental and Planning Services Team.
About you This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977.Currently studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography or similar and entering final year of studies in 2025, with the ability to study part-time.Current Drivers Licence (minimum NSW Provisional P1 Licence or equivalent).Proven organisational skills to manage workloads to meet competing deadlines.Proven research and report writing skills.Demonstrated commitment to customer service with a flexible attitude and ability to use initiative.Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and contribute to group outcomes.Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and not afraid to speak in public.Comfortable working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMs and confidence to learn different software applications used by Council.Demonstrated key capabilities as defined in the Key Capabilities Table (outlined in the Position Description).We offer Temporary full-time employment for 2 years, working 35 hours per week.The opportunity to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in local government whilst completing your final year of university studies; the opportunity to study part-time and the provision of paid study leave one day per week.Salary is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.Training Courses + Professional Development.Flexible work arrangements with access to Indoor Accrued Time (Flexi).40% discount on yearly Aquatic and Fitness Centre membership for staff and families at local facility (conditions apply).Access to EAP program for employees and their immediate family.Further information and to apply For more information on this position, please refer to the Position Description, Council's Careers website or contact Human Resources on (02) 6549 3700.
