About the Position
Commencing in January 2025, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Cadet Environmental Planning Officer to join our organisation.
This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

In this role, you will build upon your studies by gaining practical experience and training in environmental planning within a local government context.
You will be provided with a comprehensive learning experience, allowing you the application of theoretical knowledge in a practical work environment.
You will have a training plan developed specifically for you, giving you the opportunity to assist in:
Strategic land use planning,Reviewing development proposals,Preparing sustainability and resilience strategies and policies,Landcare and community education programs.The position is full-time employment for two (2) years for undergraduates currently studying a degree qualification in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography or similar; and entering their final year of studies in 2025, with the ability to study part-time.
This entry-level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Council's Environmental and Planning Services Team.

About You

You should possess the following qualifications:
Currently studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography or similar and entering final year of studies in 2025, with the ability to study part-time.Current Drivers Licence (minimum NSW Provisional P1 Licence or equivalent).Australian permanent residency.Proven organisational skills to manage workloads to meet competing deadlines.Proven research and report writing skills.Demonstrated commitment to customer service with a flexible attitude and ability to use initiative.Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and contribute to group outcomes.Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and not afraid to speak in public.Comfortable working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMs and confidence to learn different software applications used by Council.Demonstrated key capabilities as defined in the Key Capabilities Table (outlined in the Position Description).We Offer:
Temporary full-time employment for 2 years, working 35 hours per week.

Salary is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
