ADD VALUE - THE ROLE The Cadet Accountant will work with various departments of Council to assist in the effective financial management of the organisation by supporting the provision of timely, accurate financial advice to ensure the efficient delivery of works and services.
Key responsibilities include: Build strong partnering relationships with key stakeholders in Business Units.
Support department annual and long-term budget development, monthly finance report review, and contribute to quarterly and annual budget reviews Investigate transactions and prepare journal requests Assist in month end and financial year end accounting processes and participate in the production of the financial reports Develop an understanding of maintaining cashflow through the investment of Council funds Assist in the accounting processes for Grant funding Assist in the capitalisation of assets Assist in the preparation and lodgement of Council's statutory taxation and financial reporting obligations Collect, analyse and report data for business analysis Participate in team workshops to explore business improvement opportunities Ensure financial transactions are in accordance with accounting standards, policies, procedures, codes of practice Develop reports to assist in operational analysis This position is offered on a temporary basis (up to 2-year cadetship) working 35 hours per week.
To be considered for this role you will need to be currently enrolled in a Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business, in your penultimate or final year.
Remuneration package for this position is based in accordance with the Local Government (state) Award in the range of $1142.50 - $1194.60 per week plus superannuation.
