MPI have a requirement for a Cable Bay Technician to work in Deeside, Flintshire.Rate of pay is £15.54 per hour PAYEInitially for 6 months with the possibility of extension if the work requires itJOB PURPOSEThe role of the Cable Bay Technician is to manufacture, test and repair avionics, maritime, ground and weapons system cables, wiring harnesses and looms in a timely and efficient manner whilst complying with legislative and organisational standards. This is achieved by analysing engineering drawings and diagrams.RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOBWork in accordance with the Maintenance Approved Organisation Scheme (MAOS) ensuring that the correct authorisations are worked towards, held and kept current and comply with all statutory COSHH, H&S and environmental protection instructions.Completing all relevant paperwork and engineering documentation to provide an auditable record of work carried out.Work as part of a team to meet performance targets and objectives for assigned area.Work with the production teams and other business areas to foster a spirit of innovation and seek to constantly improve.Input and update of data and the maintenance of digital media to satisfy internal and external customers with regard to airworthiness and information requirements. Ensure the quality and standard of the workshop is maintained in accordance with the Business System, (DBM) and ISO regulations by following the relevant Operations DBM leaflet.Assist in coordinating the manufacture or repair of cable projects including documentation, drawings, tooling & testing of the finished article.Inspect completed cable projects to ensure compliance to design and customer specification.ESSENTIAL CRITERIAMust be able to understand and interpret complex electrical, mechanical drawings, and diagrams to produce cables.Must be able to use electrical/mechanical test equipment to confirm serviceability and to assist fault diagnosis.Be proficient in hand skills for crimping, soldering, wire stripping, heat guns and cable winding machinery.Have a thorough understanding of practical cable manufacture techniques i.e. cable looms and harness layout.Have an excellent working knowledge of terminations and connections and their application.Carry out all work in a proficient manner to ensure airworthiness and customer levels are maintained.Must have an experienced broad skill set in cable manufacture.PTT qualified & certifiedUnderstand the dangers of safely testing and working on live equipment, which can include high levels of current/voltage.DESIRABLE CRITERIACarry out repairs and modifications to a wide range of components of varying complexity and age.Demonstrate suitable hand skills, both mechanical (screwdrivers, spanners, pliers etc.) and electrical (soldering irons, solder rework centres, crimping etc.).Display an understanding of, and the ability to interpret, complex circuit diagrams and technical drawings.Have an understanding of practical and theoretical electronicsINTELLECTUAL DEMANDS OF THE JOBInterpret and work from engineering drawings to manufacture and or repair cables.Problem solvingA large degree of autonomy is placed upon the technician to fulfil the task in a timely manner during cable production. Work and therefore decision making is carried out under a scheme of self-supervision or supervision by an equivalent grade technician and in certain cases an independent inspection by a third technician.COMMUNICATION DEMANDS OF THE JOBInternal communication on a daily basis between team and support areas, usually through face-to-face, telephone or E-Mail.PHYSICAL DEMANDSMovement of heavy or cumbersome items. Cable reels tend to be heavy and awkward to handle and require frequent movement to measure out accurately the required lengths for the task.The majority of tasks require complicated high degree of manual dexterity, possibly resulting in fatigue.Many tasks require close intricate work using magnifying aids and illumination, especially when crimping connectors and terminations; this can often result in eyestrain.Virtually all tasks require the use of solder, solvents, epoxy resins and adhesives with the resultant use of PPE and fume extraction. The incumbent must be aware of the hazards associated with the chemicals in use and the relevant COSHH data sheets and be compliant in their use.It is necessary to be able to identify colour coded components and wiring. The incumbent cannot have a colour vision deficiency.Standing for approximately 65% of time at work.Use of chemicals, test equipment, tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).WORK ENVIRONMENTThere is usually a moderate level of background noise.Environment requires the use of protective clothing.The use of fume extraction facility is required when soldering.
