The Cabin Safety Team Leader is primarily responsible for leading a team and engaging with existing and intending cabin safety stakeholders, providing specialist technical support and assessment, as well as the oversight of the cabin safety team daily tasks.
The cabin safety Team Leader provides clear and consistent leadership, constructive feedback to team members, positive and supportive contribution to the continued enhancement of the team's culture and overall performance. This role requires work to be undertaken independently and as part of a team, to ensure delivery of team objectives.
Work will involve a range of activities supporting and relating to complex to highly complex issues and regulatory functions following CASA protocols and procedures.
This role works with other organisations to effectively manage existing and emerging cabin safety-related risks.
The cabin safety Team Leader is responsible for the following:
• Provide effective leadership, coordination and management of the cabin safety inspectors
• Lead, supervise and mentor a team of 5 cabin safety staff that are located across Australia
• Provide and coordinate high quality, expert technical and regulatory support, and complex advice to the Manager Technical Operations and CASA hierarchy
• Utilising contemporary risk management methodologies, conduct desktop and/or onsite assessments of regulatory services, as well as make recommendations in relation to the issue of permissions, and other approvals
• Act as a technical leader for cabin safety to facilitate cooperation and discussion on standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Participates in the quality control process - conduct reviews on technical assessments and co-ordinates updates to documentation to ensure consistency
• Coordinate opportunities for staff to obtain exposure to OJT activities and ensure assessors receive appropriate training. Coordinate group training requests from the team.
• Assist in educating both internal and external parties in supporting the cabin safety discipline
• Make positive and constructive contributions to the ongoing improvement of the team's processes, the development of policy, regulatory development, and other additional cabin safety-related matters as required
• Ensure records and information are maintained in support of regulatory functions and team reporting capabilities.
• Undertake cabin safety Inspectors tasks as necessary including:
- Leading or participating in cabin safety related audits and audits in conjunction with other CASA Divisions
- Contribute to the risk evaluation of authorisation holders and when necessary, recommend enforcement action
- Assess, analyse and maintain outcomes of surveillance activities
• Manage stakeholder engagement relationships with sector-based industry associations
• Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace and act in accordance with CASA's Values and Behaviours
• Work supportively and cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve shared outcomes.
The key duties of the position include
The following mandatory requirements (for all candidates):
• Extensive experience in implementing and regulating safety standards at a similar environment that can be demonstrated as having relevance to the duties of the position.
• An in-depth knowledgeable of the Australian and ICAO regulatory framework applicable to the role.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary and/or a remote team.
• Knowledge or demonstrated experience relevant to complex oversight of the cabin safety discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding of the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures, and their issues and to be able to communicate respectfully with them.
The following desirable:
• Successful completion of an accredited quality system auditor course and practical experience in system-based risk driven auditing.
• Have a good understanding of aviation safety management systems.
• Significant regulatory experience or equivalent technical professional experience.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Safety or Aviation Management.
• A high-level understanding of quality assurance and risk management principles.
• Experience in the audit of aviation related organisations or a similar environment that can be demonstrated as having relevance to the duties of the position.
