This position is based at their head-office located on the outskirts of Brisbane CBD.Our client is one of the leading convenience store chains in Australia, with over 85 locations and growing. This dynamic brand is committed to providing customers with everything they need, whether it's groceries, snacks, fuel, or essential services.This position is instrumental in shaping the product range and promotional strategy, all while ensuring operational excellence and fostering strong supplier relationships.The Role:As a Buying Manager leading a team of 3 direct reports and part of the senior leadership team, you'll play a key role that involves negotiating optimal pricing and crafting a purchasing strategy aligned with the latest consumer trends. More specifically:Develop and implement a purchasing inventory strategy based on up-to-date consumer behaviour insights, market trends, and seasonal demands, ensuring a dynamic and relevant product range that meets customer expectations.Drive category management initiatives by strategically sourcing, selecting, and purchasing high-quality products that align with the company's market positioning and localised customer demographics.Ensure buying team accuracy in maintaining up-to-date product pricing, compliance, product files, and promotional materials, contributing to operational efficiency and streamlined store execution.Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to stock levels, sales performance, and promotional effectiveness.Communicate the company's product buying direction clearly with all stakeholders, from internal teams to suppliers, ensuring alignment across the business.Negotiate the best pricing and deals with suppliers, ensuring high-quality products are sourced.Lead the New Product Development strategy by continuously sourcing innovative and high-demand products that align with the company's vision of being an extended-range convenience store provider.Manage planogram reviews and adjustments, ensuring products are strategically positioned to optimise sales and customer satisfaction across various locations.Collaborate closely with the marketing and area operations teams to drive successful promotional campaigns and product execution.Oversee category management, ensuring a diverse and strategic range of products across both fuel and non-fuel categories.Manage key supplier relationships, ensuring the company's contracts and agreements align with organisational goals, delivering profitability and long-term success.Analyse market trends and apply insights to buying decisions.Manage budget tracking, performance reviews, and monthly reports.The ideal candidate:You will have demonstrated ability in the following criteria to be successful:A minimum of 5-7 years of senior buying or category management experience, ideally within the FMCG, food retail, or large-format convenience sectors.Relevant tertiary education (desirable).Passionate, have a progressive product buying mindset and a positive outlook.A proven track record of working in both corporate and franchise environments, with experience in similar senior leadership roles.A deep understanding of market dynamics and the ability to negotiate strategically.Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and drive operational improvements.Extensive product knowledge and a solid understanding of consumer trends.Highly skilled in communication, team leadership, and problem-solving.Proficiency in MS Office and relevant industry tools.Understand and analyse the market and regions to identify areas for growth.Ability to build genuine relationships.Be proactive in your approach to getting results.Great communicator with ability to influence change.Must have full working rights in Australia.The Benefits:$150k-$170k + Super with an ideal start date in January 2025.Flexible start times (7, 8 or 9 am).Free private gated parking and shower facilities for added convenience.Opportunity to lead and leave a lasting impact in a growing, innovative company.Supportive, engaged team culture.A company that you will be proud to work for with long term job security.If you are interested in this role and feel that you can have a great impact in a growing company, we encourage you to "APPLY NOW".At The Talent Playbook, we value the time and effort it takes to apply for a role, so we will communicate with each of you with an update of your application (through a call or an email).
