At Cathedral we 'educate for life-long success'.We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Manager – Finance to join our team. The Business Manager – Finance is a full-time executive position at The Cathedral School and carries with it all the expectations of senior leadership within a school. The position is to provide operational support to the Principal and other executive team members to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the school's financial system. The position is responsible for the complex accounting and reporting functions of the School, together with compliance reporting and supervision of staff as nominated by the Principal.The Business Manager – Finance will possess a broad range of leadership, organisational and financial skills, with an ability to think and perform in a variety of management areas. Applicants will need to demonstrate their outstanding interpersonal skills as well as their understanding of the necessary accounting, legislative and financial issues that are currently influencing the school's strategic decisions.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial and Management Accounting:Oversee day-to-day accounting functions and ensure the integrity of financial records.Prepare and present monthly management accounts, financial schedules, and statutory financial statements.Provide financial advice and reports for decision-making.Budgeting and Forecasting:Manage the preparation of the school's budgets and assist budget managers in fund requests.Monitor budget and general ledger reconciliations, and report on variances.Prepare forward economic planning and cash flow forecasts.Audit and Compliance:Organise internal and external audit procedures, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.Prepare supporting documents for audits and ensure regulatory and statutory reporting is accurate and timely.Ensure professional accounting standards are met and maintained.Cost and Asset Management:Conduct cost accounting and analysis, and engage in cost reduction analyses.Maintain and update the fixed asset register, oversee asset verification, and manage depreciation and amortization.Monitor and control financial performance of commercial trading centers.Team Leadership and Support:Supervise and support finance and human resource staff, ensuring professional standards and timeframes are met.Provide coaching, conduct performance appraisals, and encourage teamwork.Advise staff on GST, BAS, FBT and payroll issues, and correct accounting processes.Financial Analysis and Funds Management:Interpret financial results and compile key business metrics for the School Executive and Board.Engage in benchmarking studies to establish areas of potential operational improvement.Manage banking relationships, equity and debt financing, and investment of funds.QualificationsDegree in Commerce/Accounting with CPA/ICCA qualifications is the minimum formal qualification required.Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card).Competencies, Knowledge & SkillsMinimum 5 years' experience within a management role within a large organisation is required.A high level of managerial, technical and professional expertise, including the ability to lead, consult, delegate, analyse, plan and communicate with diverse stakeholders.The ability to interpret, understand and apply Taxation Law, Federal Awards, Industrial Agreements, Enterprise Agreements and contract law.An extensive knowledge of GST and its application in the Education Sector.An extensive knowledge of accounting procedures.Understanding of payroll legislation and processes.Excellent computer skills including experience within an office environment working with computers using Microsoft Office, in particular Excel spreadsheets.Experience with management and operation of IT Network Systems and Integrated Software Systems is essential.Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.Ability to work to deadlines demonstrating organisational and time management skills.Problem solving skills.Customer service focus.Demonstrated effectiveness in contributing to a small team, including the capacity to review and improve workplace practices.All staff at Cathedral are expected to support the philosophies of the school and must hold a Blue Card.
