What are some example projects or experiences?Business development managers who work in rail sometimes start their career as an engineer or technician. They then move into business development where they can apply their expertise in new ways to help customers. You could find yourself working for a manufacturing firm that makes or repairs locomotives and rolling stock or in business development with a drone operator that provides railway track inspections.
What is the work environment like?As a business development manager, you'll spend some time in an office. You'll research potential clients, develop strategies, make calls, and engage with existing clients. You may also be asked to develop or review tenders and proposals for new work. Business development managers spend lots of time with clients, either at their office or another location. This may mean travelling interstate or overseas. They also frequently attend conferences and networking events which could require travel. You can find work in business development all around Australia. Most jobs are in cities and towns. Some are in remote areas.
QualificationsYou may not need any qualifications to work in business development. However, a diploma or degree in business will be highly regarded by many employers.
