As a bushfire consultant, you will be supporting the planning of structure plans and subdivisions, major tourist developments, and other special fire purpose protection facilities. You will contribute to and prepare Bushfire Attack Level Certificates, Bushfire Protection Assessment Reports, Bushfire Management Plans, Hazard Reduction Plans, Bushfire Emergency Evacuation Plans, building compliance certificates, coordinating and auditing bushfire hazard reduction works and assist with improving the protection for 'high risk' land uses and sites.
We are seeking an applicant preferably with a planning degree and experience.
You will have direct access and opportunity to work closely with our ecologists, arborists, and restoration ecologists to design landscapes that respond to bushfire risks.
To fill this role, you will need to have a passion for creating safer and resilient communities in NSW and beyond as regions grow in population, and as we confront the challenges of sustainability and climate change adaptation

An undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Planning, or Building. Accredited Bushfire Practitioner or completion of required Graduate Diploma in bushfire studies and experience to enable progress to this accreditation with 6-12 months. Excellent knowledge of relevant NSW bushfire planning legislation and Guidelines for Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas, Australian Standard 3959 Construction of buildings in bushfire prone areas, and other related guidance documents produced by the NSW Rural Fire Service and local government. Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated high standard of report writing ability and a keen attention to detail. Prior experience in the building construction industry and in preparing compliance certificates for CC and OC. A demonstrated ability to accurately interpret legislation applicable to NSW planning, building or environmental frameworks. Ability to undertake site surveys to classify vegetation to structural form. High level competencies with the MS Office suite. Technical understanding of bushfire science, bushfire risk assessment and mitigation, and associated land use planning and approvals processes. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, as you will liaise with team members from different disciplines, clients and government agencies to ensure delivery of innovative solutions that meet client and broader community expectations. Be flexible in geographic locations of work as some travel and some overnight stays may be required. Highly organised to plan and manage projects. Highly desirable FPAA Accredited BPAD Level 2 and 3. Prior experience in an operational fire role such as Rural Fire Services, National Parks etc. is desirable. Experience in ESRI ArcGIS suite mapping and in-field GPS data collection. Prior experience in ecology (basic tree identification). A current White Card and Senior First Aid Certificate will be looked on favourably but are not essential prerequisites.
