This position is fully funded by Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), based in Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley and provides services to the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley, Shire of Derby West Kimberley, Shire of Halls Creek, and the Shire of Broome.
The Opportunity We are looking for a Bushfire Risk Planning Coordinator to develop and implement local government (LG) Bushfire Risk Management (BRM) Plans.
In this position you will work closely with relevant stakeholders to identify and prioritise mitigation activities within designated LG, and ensure treatment plans are effectively planned delivered and evaluated.
Your responsibilities will include: Facilitate the management of bushfire risk to the community, assets and infrastructure by developing a Bushfire Risk Management (BRM) Plan through the use of BRM System and in collaboration with DFES regional officers; Prepare, submit and manage Mitigation Activity Fund Grants Program applications to support the provision of funds required to implement LG treatment programs; Manage contractors to ensure the agreed mitigation works are performed on time, within budget and to the required standards; Perform risk re-assessments following the completion of treatment activities and ensure risk assessments have been completed using the current BRM methodology; Inform relevant stakeholders of the status of treatment activities and escalate, to DFES, all risks and issues that may prevent the successful completion of mitigation works; Provide BRM training, where appropriate, to LG staff and volunteers; Present relevant LG mitigation programs at Bush Fire Advisory Committee.
An unrestricted WA Manual "C" Class Driver's Licence and current First Aid or Advanced First Aid qualification are essential for this role.
You will also need experience and knowledge of emergency management and bushfire risk management, a clear understanding and experience in applying bushfire mitigation strategies, well developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, experience in the application of risk management principles, and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
