Full time The Head of the Senior Preparatory School (Years 5 and 6) works with the Vice Principal to oversee the quality of the Curriculum and Pastoral Care in the Preparatory School. Under the leadership of the Vice Principal, the Head – Senior Prep (Years 5 and 6) has the delegated responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Senior Prep (Years 5 and 6) campus.
Key Responsibilities Academic Leadership Working with the Vice Principal and Leadership Team to align teaching practices with the 'Brave Hearts, Bold Minds' Model for Learning. Key duties include fostering a positive, challenging learning environment, demonstrating exemplary teaching, supporting diverse pedagogies, analyzing student performance data, ensuring NESA compliance, assisting with academic reports, and implementing systems to track student progress and welfare in Years 5-6.
Educational Leadership Supporting and monitoring the pedagogical practices of teachers, particularly those in the early stages of their careers. Key duties include coordinating special events, overseeing maintenance needs in the Senior Prep, and ensuring effective communication between Year 6 and Middle Years teachers. The position also supports Teacher Accreditation for new scheme teachers and encourages professional development within the Senior Prep team. In collaboration with the Vice Principal and other coordinators, the role ensures that Senior Prep programs meet student needs, adhere to assessment and reporting requirements, and track academic progress effectively. Additionally, the role works with Learning Enrichment personnel to support students with special needs and ensure that gifted and talented students are appropriately challenged and supported.
Pastoral Care Providing proactive and effective pastoral care for students at The Scots College, focusing on fostering a safe and positive environment grounded in Christian values. It requires collaboration with the Vice Principal and the Preparatory School Leadership Team to implement a consistent pastoral care system for students from Transition to Year 6, with a particular emphasis on promoting excellence, responsibility, and cooperation, especially in Years 5-6. The role also includes supporting students who may be experiencing difficulties by liaising with class teachers, counsellors, parents, and Learning Enrichment staff. Ensuring consistent standards for student behaviour, attendance, punctuality, uniform, and grooming is essential, with a special focus on the senior years of the Preparatory School.
Christian Leadership The role involves promoting and safeguarding the College's vision, ethos, and educational tradition, particularly within the Presbyterian faith. Responsibilities include fostering a caring and inclusive environment, supporting the development of social conscience, and ensuring respect for diversity. The position also requires overseeing the annual budgets for the Senior Prep, providing a Christian role model, and collaborating with leadership to help students grow into well-rounded individuals with strong character and values grounded in a Christian worldview.
Staff Management Supporting and managing teaching staff within the Preparatory School. These include recognizing the unique contributions of classroom and specialist teachers, providing pastoral support to Senior Prep teachers, working with the Vice Principal on staff selection, induction, review, and professional development, and collaborating with the Vice Principal on the effective deployment of staff.
