About us
St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Blackall was originally established by the Josephite Sisters in 1917 to serve the Catholic families of the far west. St Joseph's School exists for the education of children from Prep to Year 6 and is a co-educational facility still serving the township and surrounding properties of Blackall. St Joseph's also provides a Kindergarten service on the school site which delivers a play-based learning program for students aged 3 or 4 years of age.
Our mission statement emphasizes a child-centred education that recognises and respects the needs and talents of each individual, which is paramount to what our school and our patron saint – St Joseph are all about.
Your Role
An exciting opportunity exists to join the team at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Blackall, in the position of Facilities Officer (Groundsperson). This is a term-time continuing position for 20hpw, commencing January 2025 or as negotiated with the successful applicant.
We are seeking applicants who will contribute to the effective and efficient operation and environment of the school through a high level of personal motivation and initiative in the ongoing maintenance, beautification, and development of the school's facilities and grounds.
Reporting to the Principal, this role performs daily grounds and maintenance tasks including minor repairs and maintenance of school buildings and surrounds, gardening, grounds beautification, and various other tasks as required.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
Securing grounds and equipment – keeping our school safe Mowing, trimming, and fertilising lawns and turf areas Repairing and maintaining irrigation systems Weeding, planting, and fertilising gardens Outdoor cleaning and use of high-pressure water cleaner Identifying and assisting with minor building maintenance – e.g., touch-up painting and other minor repairs. Assembling, moving, and relocating furniture Assisting with the set-up of spaces for school events Gardening and general caretaking of school buildings and gardens Working with other grounds staff, as required Rubbish and waste management Working with contractors to oversee major repairs and maintenance About you
The successful applicant will have relevant experience and an understanding of, and a commitment to, the ethos of Catholic Education. In addition, you will have excellent time management skills and well-developed interpersonal skills.
