Base salary will be in the range $89,861.38 - $96,402.32 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 6)
Based at our St Lucia Campus, travel to other locations required
About This Opportunity You will coordinate facilities management and safety compliance activities for buildings and sites owned or occupied by QAAFI, in collaboration with the QAAFI facilities and safety team, as set out by UQ, DPI and relevant legislative requirements. You will act as a primary point of contact for several QAAFI facilities, which will change on a rotational basis and/or due to operational demand.
You will primarily be based at St Lucia and Long Pocket campus but will be required to travel to other Brisbane and regional UQ and DPI sites such as Dutton Park, Coopers Plains, Gatton and Warwick.
Key responsibilities will include: Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) Be the primary contact/advisor at QAAFI facilities in the following areas:
Advise and support management and building occupants on their responsibilities under UQ policy and the Workplace Health & Safety Act and ensure compliance on the overall state of health and safety for QAAFI's facilities, including mandatory training, audits and record keeping requirements. Maintain compliance with conditions and procedures to support scheduled audits for OGTR, Food Safety, Biosecurity and other relevant compliance requirements. Maintain accurate records to support permits and site accreditations. Ensuring WHS systems are in place and observed for items including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), chemical safety, equipment and plant, waste disposal procedures and chemical and biological storage. Act as a First Aid Officer and oversee the maintenance of first aid supplies and specialist treatments for chemical exposure including spill kits, safety showers and eye-wash stations. Responsible for the management of QAAFI's facility incident, illness & injury reporting system including actively identifying and reporting hazards and assisting Institute personnel with reporting incidents, injuries, and hazards, including ergonomics and manual handling risks. Participate in identifying trends and reporting, incident investigation, provide advice on risk controls and resolution and provide emergency advice as required. Manage HSW and local site inductions for new staff, visitors, undergraduate and postgraduate students. Develop and maintain common Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and training in use of equipment, facilities, and PPE. Provide advice on maintenance of all related documentation in regards to laboratory purchasing, transport, storage, usage, inventories, and disposal, in consultation with relevant facility manager/s and in accordance with legislative requirements. Act as a Controlled Substance Officer and Drugs Officer. Facilitate and participate in relevant site specific and Institute HSW committee meetings, and other forums as required. Actively contribute to the UQ WHSC network, championing HSW initiatives and fostering a strong HSW culture at the Institute. Facilities and Operations Coordinate building maintenance, minor works improvements and cleaning services, and act as the central contact point for maintenance staff and contractors, including supervision in restricted areas. Responsible for the coordination of space for staff and students, including regular space auditing, and local office or lab moves ensuring compliance with space guidelines. Responsible for the management of facility equipment (such as research, ITS, furniture equipment), including procurement, installation, maintenance, repairs, servicing, testing compliance, auditing and training. Liaise with UQ teams, such as Property and Facilities and external contractors. Monitor electrical safety across the facility, including the coordination of annual test and tag. Coordinate IT infrastructure needs within facilities including network, phone, hardware and software and monitoring service standards provided by ITS against the Service Level Agreements. Responsible for the procurement of non-lab consumables, maintenance of safety compliance items/processes in both non-laboratory and laboratory areas, such as first aid kits and spill kits, waste disposal, storage, and decontamination procedures. Develop and implement waste and environment management procedures for the building, provide training and advice, and maintain associated records. Assist with security matters including access control and key custodianship, in collaboration with UQ Property and Facilities. Coordinate and participate in effective 24/7 after hours support for building or equipment failures and emergencies. Other duties as reasonably directed by the supervisor. This position will collaborate with QAAFI, UQ and DPI research and operational personnel across multiple UQ and DPI sites.
About You A science degree with subsequent experience in a relevant field such as agriculture, chemistry, biology or; an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Experience supporting facility operations and/or health, safety, wellness, and compliance in facilities ranging from laboratory environments (PC2 and QC2) to field based research facilities (plant and animal). Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the principles and legislation related to Workplace Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, OGTR (Office of the Gene Technology Regulator), Biosecurity, Acts and Regulations and experience in implementing these in a chemical and/or biological research facility. Demonstrated skills in interpreting policies, implementing procedures, and developing local guidelines for a research facility. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with a diverse range of people both within and external to the University. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, with excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Accurate record keeping skills and demonstrated ability to maintain compliance systems. Experience in supporting facility operations, safety and compliance in a university or large government organisation setting. Experience in the use of a wide range of computer applications in a networked environment. Experience in managing infrastructure and equipment for agricultural purposes, including field work and remote settings. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, mandatory immunisations, first aid and/or CPR certification etc.
