Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day.
Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2. Woodside Energy is Australia's leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be working with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source.
Job Summary: In this role, you will lead a team to implement and manage field and subcontractor welding programs and provide technical direction to support project welding initiatives. You will review scheduled work plans, provide input to production meetings, and conduct program audits. Your leadership will ensure welding program compliance and availability of welder resources to support planned work scopes.
Major Responsibilities: Implements, maintains, and manages the Field Welding program. Provides oversight & technical direction to Welding Engineers, field supervision, craft professionals and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with all code, project specifications and Bechtel's procedures and standards. Manages the subcontractor welding program. Provides specialized welding engineering and technical support for construction to ensure construction meets all code, client, and JV procedures. Provides technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code designed and fabricated items. Provides oversight and technical direction of direct hire pre- and post-weld heat treatment program. Manages the rod rooms and rod room attendants, to ensure all weld filler materials are procured and controlled in compliance to Bechtel standards and Code requirements. Manages the NDE subcontract to include scheduling and coordination with construction site and subcontractors to ensure NDE is performed with the least impact and cost to the project and client. Manages and monitor the welder qualification lab to ensure the qualification of skilled welder, issuing each welder a unique ID, and maintaining welder qualification and maintenance records. Implement and maintain welder and weld tracking program to ensure all welds are properly documented and NDE is performed per project requirements. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience. Required Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of current industry quality construction procedures and standards. Must be computer literate in Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Must have the training and experience to take and pass Bechtel Level II VT NDE, with experience in additional NDE methods. Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Infoworks or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects. Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards is required. Excellent communication and problem-solving ability. Additional Information: This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).
The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site.
