About the Opportunity: The primary function of this role is to work with other staff to create a safe and respectful home environment for young people, assisting them in taking responsibility and making healthy life choices. You will facilitate activities and support young people to achieve their goals through a strengths-based daily personalised program and bail conditions while in residential services.
When there are no young people residing in the Bail Service, staff will support and engage young people in activities facilitated by local organisations to build rapport and enhance HOPE's reputation in the community, and/or support HOPE staff with community mentoring clients as needed.
Shifts will vary, including weekday shifts, weekday evening/overnight shifts, and weekend day/overnight shifts.
Requirements of the Role: Work within the Bail Practice Manual and HOPE policy to provide a safe environment for young people and co-workers.Support up to 4 young people in a residential service when on shift, helping them achieve their goals and bail conditions through pro-social activities.Facilitate the strengths-based personalised program developed by the Coordinator.Ensure regular conversations occur with each young person and Coordinator regarding their progress and satisfaction in implementing their activity plan.Provide opportunities for young people to experience healthy lifestyle and recreational activities.Serve as a role model, offering non-judgmental and compassionate support.Transport young people to and from programs and appointments as required.Support young people with supervised family visits (where approved and appropriate).About You: Minimum Certificate III in Community Services, Youth Work, AOD or similar qualification, or relevant experience (minimum 1 year in a similar role).Experience delivering services (programs) to young people (group or one-on-one).Experience and/or willingness to work with young people with challenging behaviours.Strong communication skills with young people and an understanding of Aboriginal culture.Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Client Management Systems for reporting and record keeping.Strong problem-solving skills to manage difficult situations.Ability to prepare meals and maintain a clean and healthy environment.Ability to engage in outdoor recreational activities.Understanding and adherence to personal and professional boundaries.Current knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.Broad knowledge of drug and alcohol, mental health, and youth justice issues and their impact on young people.Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practices and Care.Knowledge of the effects of foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) on young people or willingness to undertake training.MHFA certification.An interest in various hobbies, e.g., woodwork, craft, gardening, food, and cooking.Appointments will be subject to: Australian residency/visaSatisfactory National Police check (within 3 months)Current C or A class driver's licenseFirst Aid CertificateWillingness to complete Pre-employment Form PSD0001 verification of identification by the Department of Justice (DOJ) prior to interviewSuitable work refereeOur Culture: Hope strives to provide a safe workplace and promotes progressive policies that prioritise the health, safety, and unique needs of our team.
