About us: The National Planning section is responsible for: •    providing planning capability and operational support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 national scheduled operations, projects, taskforces, and campaigns for the ABF; •    facilitating after action reviews (AARs) and reviews post activity reports (PARs) as an impartial body prior to submission to Lessons Management; •    delivering against strategic priority areas for the ABF, in particular where the ABF contribution has other key interdependencies across government; •    providing strategic futures planning in a hazard-agnostic way; •    providing subject matter expertise and capability, utilising a range of planning methodologies to enhance the ABF's planning proficiency and generate a greater level of organisational preparedness; •    Coordinating and delivering ABF's input into major and significant events, including conferences, sporting events and high-level government forums; •    Delivering on the coordination of Guest of Government movements; •    Coordinating and delivering ABF's input into military exercises with foreign force participation within Australia.
Our ideal candidate will have: •    Strong appreciation of the functions and capabilities of the ABF, the Department and operational external agency partners •    Ability to quickly acquire sound understanding of ABF legislation; ABF Operations Planning Framework; C3 Doctrine, ICCS+; and the ABF Enforcement Doctrine •    Ability to quickly acquire understanding of the tactical, operational and strategic border environment and its relation to ABF equities •    Ability to work autonomously and deliver results.
The key duties of the position include: •    Support and contribute to the delivery of day to day operations of the work area including the development and implementation of an Effects Based Planning (EBP) discipline across the ABF  •    Develop appropriate courses of action to achieve assigned tasks, including assessing risks when prioritising tasks to meet conflicting deadlines against team and section priorities •    Proactively maintain a heightened awareness of border threats and vulnerabilities, and the effectiveness of border controls relating to operational environments to inform EBP tools and techniques •    Initiate, build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and networks across the ABF, the Department, external partner agencies, industry and international stakeholders as appropriate to promote EBP and leverage capability •    Provide accurate and specialised EBP advice to assist stakeholders to apply a more strategic approach to operational planning and targeting.

Eligibility To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:   ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
