About our team Ports & Enforcement | ABF Workforce | ABF College | Foundation and Ports Faculty The Border Force Officer Recruit Training (BFORT) program aims to provide the Australian Border Force (ABF) with an operational law enforcement focussed workforce, which is trained and equipped to undertake functions across the entire border continuum.
Operating under a command and control model, the mission of the ABF is to protect Australia's border and enable legitimate travel and trade.
The program equips BFORT recruits with skills and knowledge to enable them to be disciplined, multi-skilled, team oriented, mobile and deployable to the operational needs of the ABF.
BFORT recruits undertake their 12 months training at the APS3 classification ($64,392.00 - $73.981.00) + 15.4% superannuation.
Upon successfully completing the BFORT course, you will graduate as a permanent Border Force Officer at the APS3 classification.

Duties and responsibilities The ABF's public image is a critical component of our identity, brand and reputation as a professional law enforcement agency.
Adhering to the highest standards of dress, appearance and grooming contributes to the maintenance of the public image.
The Border Force Officer Recruit Trainee (BFORT) must comply with the obligations and requirements associated with dress and appearance standards.
The Border Force Officer Recruit Trainee (BFORT) will be required to: Attend classroom type training in a range of locations and participate in on the job training and education Participate in a series of work placements in both office hours and shift-work environments, including weekend and night shifts Collaborate as part of a team in a dynamic border protection environment to process passengers at air and sea ports, including interacting with and questioning travellers/detainees and other persons of diverse backgrounds Use personal protection and defence equipment.
Use technology, equipment and vehicles, such as: X-ray machines, electronic substance and trace detection testing equipment Tools for recording purposes and examination of cargo, mail, baggage and documents Driving official vehicles and embarking and disembarking vessels at berths and at sea.
Additional information These roles may require: Interstate travel Varied hours of work including weekends and shift work Travelling to and from different locations by all modes of transport Working in challenging environmental conditions, including remote areas.

Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
