About The Ration Shed Museum The Ration Shed Museum is a vital cultural hub located in Cherbourg, Queensland.
It plays a key role in preserving and sharing the rich history, stories, and experiences of the Wakka Wakka people and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families that were forcibly relocated to Cherbourg.
The Museum offers an educational experience for school groups, community members, and tourists, promoting reconciliation and understanding through storytelling, artefacts, and interactive exhibits.
Position Overview The Bookings Officer is responsible for coordinating and managing all booking requests for The Ration Shed Museum.
This role requires excellent customer service, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
The Bookings Officer will act as the first point of contact for schools, community groups, and tourists arranging visits, ensuring all bookings are accurately recorded and confirmed.
The role will also involve working closely with the Museum Manager and Tour Guide team to ensure smooth scheduling and operational efficiency.
As an identified role under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), this position must be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
Key Responsibilities Booking Management: Respond to and manage all incoming booking requests via phone, email, and online platforms, ensuring prompt and courteous communication with clients.Schedule Coordination: Coordinate tour schedules and availability with the Museum Manager and Tour Guide team to ensure smooth daily operations.Customer Service: Act as the first point of contact for schools, community organisations, and tourists, providing detailed information about available tours, group requirements, and pricing.Administrative Support: Maintain accurate booking records, prepare booking confirmations, and issue invoices or receipts as required.Systems Management: Use booking software, spreadsheets, and email correspondence to organise and track all incoming and confirmed bookings.Payments and Invoicing: Process payments, issue invoices, and follow up on outstanding payments as required.Feedback Collection: Collect and document feedback from visitors and clients to support continuous improvement of services.Problem Solving: Address issues or last-minute changes to bookings, such as cancellations or rescheduling, and resolve conflicts efficiently.Selection Criteria To be successful in this role, applicants must demonstrate the following skills, knowledge, and attributes:

Prior experience in bookings, Administration Cert III, customer service, or reception roles.Experience using booking software, spreadsheets, and email platforms.Experience working within the Cherbourg community or having a strong connection to the area.Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).Current Working with Children Card (Blue Card)Key Relationships Internal: Museum Manager and Coordinator, Tour Guide Team, Museum Staff, and Volunteers.External: School groups, community organisations, tourists, and other visitors.Work Conditions and Requirements This position is a permanent part-time role, requiring regular attendance four days per week.The role involves a mix of desk-based administrative work and customer service responsibilities.The successful candidate will be required to work onsite at The Ration Shed Museum in Cherbourg.Availability for occasional work outside regular hours may be required to support special events or large group bookings.How to Apply To apply for this position, please provide the following:
