The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (the Academy) is a statutory authority established under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (the Act). The Academy is governed by a Board that includes members from the government, Catholic and Independent school sectors, led by Dr Toni Meath, Chair. The Academy's shared purpose is to create and offer evidence-informed professional learning programs, events and initiatives designed to take Victoria's highly skilled teachers and school leaders from great to exceptional and advance the quality and status of teaching and school leadership. The Board sets the strategic plan to support achieving the Academy's objectives, and the CEO, Dr Marcia Devlin AM leads the organisation.
About the role
Accountable to the Minister, the 7-member Board sets the strategic direction for the Academy aligned to its legislated Objectives. They oversee the Academy's efficient and effective operations, including execution of its statutory functions, and financial performance. Board members collectively ensure the Academy meets the educational and regulatory objectives set by the State to enhance professional learning for Victorian Educators. Their responsibilities include shaping priorities, increasing engagement, governance, continuous improvement and risk oversight. They also provide expert insights and advice through Board discussions. Board members must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the duties and behaviours for Directors of public sector entitles, including acting appropriately with integrity, impartiality, respectfully, responsibly, and always in the best interest of the Academy. Board members are Governor-in-Council statutory appointments, multiple Board members will be appointed in this round.
About you
With a demonstrated record of broad achievement in or related to education, you are highly credible and well credentialled. You may be 1) a teacher or leader in the Victorian school system with a teaching background, 2) a commercially experienced professional with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and educational leadership, or 3) from a less represented cohort such as First Nations.

Your experience showcases your strategic, analytical and business acumen, along with well-developed skills in communication, governance, engagement and stakeholder management. An appreciation of public sector administration and governance in educational contexts is preferred. You contribute to informed and effective decision making in a respectful, collaborative manner. A clear and approachable communicator, you encourage others to share their knowledge, while working proactively with everyone.
