The successful candidate will manage the full spectrum of handling, processing, and storing blood, bone marrow, and tissue samples, ensuring high-quality outcomes and maintaining accurate records.Responsibilities will include:Timely retrieval and receipting of samples from delivery points within HMRI or John Hunter NSW Pathology LaboratoryEfficient, reproducible processing of samples according to project-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Cataloguing and secure storage of samples while maintaining specimen inventory accuracy.DNA and RNA extraction, including the 'work-up' of new research protocolsInputting and maintaining detailed records in the OpenSpecimen Database, ensuring data privacy and confidentiality.Adhere to all safety protocols, conduct routine equipment maintenance, and report any issues promptly.Engage in mandatory training and contribute to team operations as needed.This fixed term position is part time – full time (4-5 days per week pending consultation) at a HEW5 Higher Education Level located at HMRI – John Hunter Hospital New Lambton Heights.Minimum Requirements:Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of an associate diploma and at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of a Pathology Technician's Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a technician; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Experience in processing blood, bone marrow and/or tissues in a laboratory setting.Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team to effectively manage workflow and priorities.Ability to adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures and willingness to handle infectious material (according to WH&S requirements).Competency in the use of a variety of computer applications and a willingness to adapt to new computer systems, including demonstrated high level accuracy for entering sample data and reconciling sample details.Demonstrated experience in dealing with private and confidential information.Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.Knowledge of and/or experience in Biobanking methodologies and processing blood, bone marrow and tissues.Experience with OpenSpecimen Database or similar LIMS system.Your next steps:Please visit here for a guide on how to apply for a role.
