About the role
Blackheath and Thornburgh College is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Department for English and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). As Head of Department, you will lead a team of dedicated teachers and play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of our secondary school students. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Charters Towers, Queensland.
What you'll be doing
Providing strong academic leadership and strategic direction for the English and HASS departments Overseeing the development and implementation of engaging and effective curriculum across Years 7-12 Fostering a collaborative team environment and supporting the professional development of teaching staff Analysing student performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted interventions Liaising with parents, carers and the broader school community to promote student success Ensuring compliance with all relevant educational policies, procedures and legislative requirements Contributing to the overall leadership and strategic direction of the college What we're looking for
Experience as a secondary school teacher, with a demonstrated track record of excellence in the classroom Proven leadership experience, preferably as a Head of Department or in a similar role Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, with the ability to design and deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues A commitment to data-driven decision making and continuous improvement Relevant teaching qualifications and registration with the Queensland College of Teachers What we offer
