Our client is a listed South African contractor who recently opened a satellite company in Australia. The Australian company is headed by a South African who is fully aware of the skills and experience that South Africans bring, and is looking for a highly experienced South African Bitumen Sealing Supervisor to join him in Australia. This will be a permanent appointment at a very attractive, market-related remuneration.
The ideal person: must possess a minimum of 10-years' experience in the spray seal (chip and spray) industry as a supervisor; would preferably be single and able to travel extensively in regional areas for work; must have matric/grade 12 and preferably a tertiary qualification as this will make the visa process quick and painless; would preferably be a non-drinker or light-drinker with no history of drug use and with no pre-existing health issues that might affect his work; must be computer literate and possess good writing skills. All staff members do their daily paperwork on a tablet using Microsoft apps; must possess a firm understanding of safe work practices, especially working with bitumen and mobile plant and traffic. Safety comes first in Australia; must be quality-driven and needs to understand every aspect in the spray seal operations life cycle and how it affects the quality of the end product. Furthermore, the company is looking for a leader and not a dictator as Australians do not react well to aggression and an "in-your-face" approach. The right person needs to be able to manage his team and other stakeholders respectfully and create a hard-working culture with soft skills.
REMUNERATION
$110k to $150k per year base salary dependent on experience.
12% superannuation contribution (we call it "pension").
Remote work uplift 10-30% depending on the "remoteness"
Full usage of an UTE ("bakkie")
Phone and laptop
RELOCATION
The company will provide visa costs, flights, small sum for relocating belongings, plus a maximum of 10 weeks "settling-in" accommodation.
REPORTING STRUCTURE AND DUTIES
The appointed person will report fully to the senior surfacing supervisor and report partially to the project engineer, and will look after a spray seal team of between 8 – 12 people. This includes all the plant and equipment that goes with it (bitumen sprayers, aggregate spreaders, etc.). Furthermore, the Supervisor will be sent to various projects to complete the spray seal portion of the works and will manage the day-to-day running of the works (client liaising, material logistics, quality management, SHE management, daily paperwork and communication).
OTHER
The company has its own plant department and does its own maintenance.
The approximate start date is between December 2024 and February 2025 which would allow 3-4 months for visa processing.
