This is a great opportunity for someone who is either trained or happy to train to become a qualified Doula.We are looking for two Birthing on Country Practitioners to be the cultural lead working collaboratively with Midwives to deliver evidence-based and culturally appropriate individual clinical services, group health promotion, education and illness prevention activities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, their partners, and families during the antenatal, intrapartum and post-natal period in the hospital and community setting.
This will include engaging with local service providers to support the development of culturally acceptable hospital and community-based maternal and infant health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, their partners and families.Working with families and children brings so much variety as no day is the same.
Your days could be made up of:Working collaboratively with members of the Maternal Child Health team to ensure effective delivery of Perinatal Health services to clients.Provide clinical support in all areas of MCH such as baby weights, heights, urinalysis and blood pressures for pregnant women and their babies.Participate in an extensive home visiting program including maternal and newborn health checks, education on development and safety.Work in a way that is appropriate to gender sensitivities operating in the Aboriginal community.Follow up on internal/external specialist and allied health appointment.Assist midwives in pregnancy care planning and hospital booking paperwork.Provide smoking cessation information, promote breastfeeding and provide information on the impact of substance use in pregnancy.About you:We are looking for someone of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island Descent for this position.
Along with having a desire to work with women and their families you will need the following:Be willing to undertake studies to complete Cert IV in Doula Services.Availability to be included on an "on-call" roster in the future.Current Working With Children Card.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.Ability to form and maintain empathetic and caring relationships with Aboriginal Women and their families.A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health and social issues affecting Aboriginal Women and babies.Although not essential the below criteria would be beneficial:Experience and interest in child and family health.Current Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice or Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse).Current First Aid certificate.Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database system.All candidates must have a current WA Driver's License, WWCC and will be required to undertake a National Police Check prior to beginning employment.The preferred candidate will also be required to provide a clear drug and alcohol screen prior to offer of employment.What SWAMS can offer:Permanent full-time position working 8.45am to 5.06pm, Monday to Friday.Salary packaging up to $18,550 on a range of benefits such as mortgage, rent, meal and entertainment, holiday accommodation.A family friendly and welcoming and supportive culture.17.5% leave loading on every annual leave taken.Employee discount at Drive in Chemist.Uniforms provided.For InformationFor further information about this position, please telephone Human Resources on (08) 9797 81*** during normal business hours.To ApplyTo apply for this role please forward your current CV to ****** or click "apply now".#J-18808-Ljbffr
