We are looking for a biosecurity officer to join our high performing team in Invasive Plants and Animals:

Biosecurity Queensland leads the government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pests and diseases. We support capability and capacity development in prevention and preparedness in the evolving biosecurity domain.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health, and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates, and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.
As our biosecurity officer, you will provide operational services that protect Queensland's biosecurity. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to, and recover from biosecurity concerns that threaten our environment and economy.
You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
support local government with their local biosecurity planning processes with multiple stakeholders across coastal and rangeland areas, ensuring the plans are cost-effective, timely and consistent with state and national prioritiesparticipate in biosecurity operations directed at the eradication of invasive pest plants and animals in high priority situations in collaboration with relevant stakeholderscontribute to programs for enhancing the skills, knowledge, and personal development of stakeholders to enable them to deliver improved invasive species management services to a wide range of clientsassist with the development and review of policies and operational procedures, and provide the Senior Principal Biosecurity Officer with authoritative, reliable, and timely information and adviceprovide internal and external clients with accurate and timely technical advice on best practice for the control of invasive species and contribute to the development of advisory publications and electronic information systems and identify inadequacies in control technology.It is a requirement for all Biosecurity Queensland positions to have a criminal history check completed.
Mandatory qualifications It is a mandatory requirement for a technical officer to possess an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma or higher in a field of natural resource management from a recognised tertiary institution.For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
