As a Biological Compliance Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting The University of Melbourne's Biorisk Management Program, ensuring the safe and compliant use of biological agents in research and teaching. You will provide expert advice on university policies, legislation, and Australian standards, and will assist with the provision of education and training for academic and professional staff and students. Working closely with the Biorisk Management Team, you'll use your communication and problem-solving skills to foster a culture of compliance.
Your responsibilities will include:
Coordinating and conducting containment facility inspections, providing reports to stakeholders to support regulatory compliance.Providing expert advice on regulated biological materials and supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the Biorisk management Program covering research and teaching activities.Administration of Biorisk Management processes, including committee support, database maintenance, and communication with stakeholders, ensuring efficient record-keeping and discrete handling of confidential information.Who we are looking for You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability provide guidance to diverse groups, including research staff, students, and managers. You will demonstrate a collaborative approach, working effectively within a small specialist team and handling sensitive matters with maturity and discretion, while providing accurate, high-quality advice that interprets institutional and regulatory requirements.
You will also have:
Degree in biological sciences or related field, along with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge of or the ability to interpret legislation and standards impacting research involving biological agents, including the AS/NZS 2243.3:2022, Safety in laboratories, Part 3: Microbiological safety and containment.Experience providing accurate, high-quality advice on institutional and regulatory requirements.Experience working in a laboratory or containment facility.This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures. Prior to appointment, the incumbent will be required to undergo a National Health Security Check. Employment is conditional on a satisfactory outcome. Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This role requires current valid work rights for Australia.
