An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Biodiversity Principal to join our dynamic Environment team based in Perth. In this newly created role, you will provide leadership and subject matter expertise to support the development and implementation of the Roy Hill biodiversity program. Reporting to the Manager Environment and Approvals, you will have a real opportunity to shape Roy Hill's long-term environmental strategy, manage biodiversity offsets projects, lead the development of initiatives to support them, and provide expert advice and project management for biological environmental impact assessments.
You will be joining an extensive in-house team of passionate environmental professionals, including botanists, field ecologists, bushland rehabilitation technicians, vertebrate pest management experts, environmental project managers, horticulturists, and seed ecology specialists. Our collaborative culture fosters knowledge sharing and the development of innovative solutions. Mentoring a team of enthusiastic young environmental professionals, this is your chance to build upon the biodiversity offsets program to ensure suitability for Roy Hill and its future satellite mines.

Duties
Develop and manage a biodiversity framework and KPIs to ensure compliance with State and Commonwealth environmental policies and legislation Provide specialist advice on biodiversity offsets, including strategic and regional projects, and oversee the maintenance and management of offset locations Prepare and implement management plans, strategies, and related documents for environmental compliance, performance, and biodiversity, including necessary approvals documentation. Liaise with regulatory bodies to gain approval for required management plans and ensure their effective implementation Develop and manage biodiversity monitoring criteria, conduct inspections and compliance audits, review and report audit results, and oversee the implementation of recommendations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement Develop and implement educational training and awareness programs on contemporary environmental issues and provide expert technical environmental advice to internal and external stakeholders Engage with external agencies, including PEOF, DCCEEW, DBCA, traditional owner groups, government regulators, research institutions, NGOs, and consultants to meet Roy Hill's offset obligations and ensure compliance with environmental management and monitoring programs Develop and implement biodiversity offsets projects in conjunction with government, NGOs, TOs and pastoralists. Skills and experience
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or a related discipline Proven experience in developing and implementing biological survey/management programs Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with strong experience in networking with regulators and stakeholders to achieve biodiversity goals Proven experience in providing high-level strategic advice, developing and implementing environmental plans, and ensuring legislative compliance Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, work within multi-disciplinary teams, and prepare regulatory reports Comprehensive understanding of state and commonwealth environmental approval legislation associated with environmental management in the mining industry (particularly the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999) Perth ROC Facilities
