About the opportunity
We are seeking a qualified and proactive Relief Aerodrome Reporting Officer (RARO) to join our team for a new project commencing in January 2025 in the Western Downs region. The aerodrome supports closed charter services for fly-in fly-out workers, aero medical services, recreational private fixed, rotary wing operators and plays a crucial role in regional connectivity.
As a RARO, you will be supporting the Senior Aerodrome Reporting Officer (SARO) and primarily responsible for monitoring and reporting on the serviceability of the aerodrome, ensuring compliance with all relevant Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations and maintaining high safety standards. The role will be rostered 3-days per week with a week on/week off on-call roster.
Key responsibilities:
Monitor and report on aerodrome operations, ensuring serviceability and compliance with CASA regulations, including CASR Part 139 and the Manual of Standards. Conduct daily airside serviceability inspections and address any identified issues promptly. Manage and implement wildlife hazard control measures to mitigate risks. Respond to safety concerns and coordinate emergency response activities when required. Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports on aerodrome conditions, inspections, and incidents. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including Western Downs Regional Council, airline operators, contractors, and other airport personnel. Assist with general maintenance tasks to ensure the aerodrome is in optimal condition. About you

A current Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) certificate. CASA Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) or the ability to obtain one. Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or the ability to obtain one. Comprehensive knowledge of aerodrome operations and procedures (CASA MOS 139). Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders. A proactive approach to safety and problem-solving. Physical capability to perform tasks such as inspections, maintenance, and minor upkeep. Local and/or Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.
