Position Description: Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer
Company: National Plumbing Industry Buying Group
Location: Australia. Can be based East Coast IE QLD, NSW, Vic, SA
Reports to: Board of Directors
Position Summary
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) will be responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and overall success of a national buying group within the plumbing industry in Australia. This role requires a seasoned executive with a deep understanding of the plumbing industry, buying groups, and supply chain management. The MD/CEO will work closely with members, suppliers, and the board to drive growth, optimize purchasing power, and maintain strong supplier partnerships, positioning the buying group as a leading force in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
• Develop and Implement Strategy: Define and drive the company's long-term strategy to expand membership, enhance supplier relationships, and maximize purchasing power for members.
•Board Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the board to set organisational goals, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives.
•Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and market opportunities to keep the group competitive and relevant.
2. Operational and Financial Oversight
• Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and P&L to ensure profitability and operational efficiency.
•Supply Chain Optimisation: Lead initiatives to streamline the supply chain, enhancing purchasing terms, logistics, and cost-effectiveness.
•Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and compliance risks.
3. Member Engagement and Growth
• Member Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with member businesses to understand their needs, provide solutions, and maximise member satisfaction.
• Membership Expansion: Develop and implement strategies to attract new members, enhancing the group's purchasing power and market influence.
•Value Proposition Development: Ensure that the buying group delivers value through exclusive deals, resources, and support services that address members' business needs.
Organise and run State Based Member meetings along with a National Member Conference and Supplier Expo on an annual basis. Seek out and progress suitable targets for merger/acquisition IE other Buying Groups either within or external to the Plumbing Industry. 4. Supplier Partnerships and Negotiation
• Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate and manage strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate favourable terms and exclusive agreements that benefit members.
•Contract Negotiations: Lead high-level negotiations with key suppliers to secure competitive pricing, rebates, and added-value services.
•Supply Chain Partnerships: Explore strategic alliances and partnerships that enhance the group's supply chain and distribution capabilities.
5. Team Leadership and Development
• Executive Leadership: Inspire and lead the senior management team to achieve operational excellence and foster a performance-driven culture.
•Talent Development: Identify and cultivate talent within the organization, promoting professional growth and team development.
•Cultural Leadership: Champion a positive organisational culture that aligns with the company's values, vision, and commitment to member success.
Qualifications and Experience
• Industry Knowledge: Proven experience within the plumbing or construction industry, ideally with a background in buying groups, procurement, or supply chain management.
•Executive Experience: Minimum 10 years in a senior management or executive role, with a track record of driving business growth and operational excellence.
•Negotiation Skills: Strong experience in high-value contract negotiations and relationship management with suppliers.
•Financial Acumen: Proficient in financial management, budgeting, and P&L oversight with a results-oriented mindset.
•Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term strategic plans in alignment with organisational goals.
•Leadership and Influence: Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
•Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of building productive relationships with stakeholders.
•Decision-Making: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment in high-stakes environments.
•Member-Centric Mindset: Focused on delivering value and support to members, understanding and addressing their business challenges.
Performance Metrics
• Financial Performance: Achievement of revenue, profitability, and growth targets as set by the board.
•Membership Growth: Increase in member numbers, retention rates, and member satisfaction scores.
•Supplier Relationships: Strength and quality of relationships with key suppliers, measured by improved purchasing terms and feedback from members.
•Operational Efficiency: Successful implementation of streamlined processes, cost-savings initiatives, and improved service delivery.
