Your new role Join a dynamic leadership team building a new business within Ausgrid to develop, own, operate, and maintain grid-scale batteries for the NSW energy market. This role will be central to business strategy and growth, driving the establishment of energy storage solutions that align with Ausgrid's strategic objectives.
As the Commercial Director, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and delivering business cases, shaping investment strategies, and developing financial models to support battery projects. Your expertise will be crucial in securing funding, liaising with potential debt funders, and negotiating contracts for asset procurement, construction, and operational services.
With a focus on strong commercial and financial management, you will ensure precise forecasting, risk mitigation, and clear reporting for stakeholders at all levels. Key responsibilities include engaging with internal and external stakeholders and establishing market-facing capabilities. You will collaborate to implement ring-fencing procedures, ensuring compliance for seamless internal and external audits.

Tertiary degree in Engineering, Business, Accounting, or similar discipline, or equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated experience in running financial and/or commercial teams in a changing or scaling environment. Demonstrated experience in negotiating commercial terms in complex contractual environments, highlighting an ability to manage risk whilst securing outcomes. Demonstrated track record in being able to lead in changing and uncertain environments. Demonstrated ability and previous experience to draft, create, originate, and execute strategic business plans, business opportunities, and models. Demonstrated experience in successfully driving new strategies and delivering on strategic outcomes whilst fostering agreement among stakeholders with conflicting needs and expectations. Demonstrated experience in working in complex regulatory, legal, and competitive markets. Established interpersonal skills and experience in dealing with a variety of executives, internal, and external stakeholders and partners. Recognised planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the demonstrated ability to apply these skills in the context of many competing priorities and projects at different stages. Highly evident communication skills both written and oral with a focus for interpreting bid requirements and proposing solutions and partnering that create value. Experience in the National Electricity Market/electricity sector either in a strategic, commercial, legal, project management, or business development role.
