Job Summary Located within the territory of WSÁNEC (Saanich), Lkwungen (Songhees) and Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples, the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella association for the 25 Friendship Centres throughout the Province of British Columbia.
The BCAAFC collaboratively works to promote and deliver accessible programs and services that target urban Indigenous peoples and that support their vision of health and wellness.
We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Health Analyst.
BCAAFC manages a number of projects through the Health and Family Services Team – including the Doulas for Aboriginal Families Program, Childcare planning, and the Indigenous point-in-time Homelessness count.
The role involves three distinct but complimentary functions: 1.
To ground and connect the work underway with current research, 2.
To oversee and carry out research activities and reporting, and 3.
To work with our communications team to share the findings and learnings of our work in strategic ways.
The position involves working closely with a team of 2-3, coordinating with the communications team, and working with project advisory committees, project partners and funders as needed.
We are seeking someone who... Lights up when they talk about public health policy, in particular, the social determinants of health impacting Indigenous communities Is interested in the health outcomes of urban Indigenous/off-reserve Indigenous populations Wants to contribute their considerable research skills to adding to the knowledge and understanding about Indigenous health issues Enjoys community-based knowledge building and research, and working with community partners Seeks out news and information about public health outcomes, policy development Has experience in conducting research, developing literature reviews, conducting policy analysis Understands and advances the use of anti-oppressive, decolonizing approaches to research, data usage, and program development Qualifications Master's degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of research-related experience in an employment capacity (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
Experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous service organizations.
Experience working with research related to homelessness and housing is an asset Strong PC software skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Excel).
Must be able to provide clear, current criminal record check including vulnerable sector check.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and Regulations.
Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry.
Employment Conditions The place of work is 551 Chatham Street, Victoria BC; a hybrid model may be considered.
BCAAFC is an accessible space that includes ground-floor workspaces, an elevator, and accessible workstations.
The selected individual must have a stable internet connection and telephone/cell phone to work from home.
IT services and laptops will be supplied.
The workweek is 35 hours; some overtime and travel are required for this position.
Must be able to provide a clear, current criminal record check.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be a requirement for the successful candidate.
A valid BC Driver's licence is required.
The compensation package includes... Three weeks paid vacation (plus additional time off during office closure at the end of December).
Employee health benefits plan, upon completion of 3-month probation period.
$70,000.00 – $75,000.00 starting salary based on experience.
RRSP matching of up to 8% of annual salary to a max of $8,000 per year.
