Job Summary Located within the territory of WSÁNEC (Saanich), Lkwungen (Songhees) and Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples, the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella association for the 25 Friendship Centres throughout the Province of British Columbia.
The BCAAFC collaboratively works to promote and deliver accessible programs and services that target urban Indigenous peoples and that support their vision of health and wellness.
We are seeking a qualified Indigenous individual to manage and oversee the Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program.
This program provides grants to Indigenous families living in BC to access doula supports.
The goal of the program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services.
We are seeking someone who... Has knowledge and understanding of Indigenous birth work and barriers faced by Indigenous childbearing people Strong administrative and organizational abilities, with extensive experience managing files Strong verbal and written communication skills, including developing reports, presentations to health care professionals and at conferences, leading advisory meetings and composing correspondence The ability to work well under a supervisor and independently as necessary Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills Ethics and integrity, working with confidential materials and information A high energy level with a determined and productive attitude Qualifications Indigenous applicants only A minimum of 3 years administrative experience Significant experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous service organizations Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook Must be able to provide a clear, current criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and Regulations.
Employment Conditions The place of work is 551 Chatham Street, Victoria BC; a hybrid model may be considered.
BCAAFC is an accessible space that includes ground-floor workspaces, an elevator, and accessible workstations.
The workweek is 35 hours; some overtime and travel are required for this position.
Must be able to provide a clear, current criminal record check.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be a requirement for the successful candidate.
The compensation package includes... Three weeks paid vacation (plus additional time off during office closure at the end of December) Employee health benefits plan $62,500.00 – $67,500.00 starting salary based on experience.
RRSP matching of up to 8% of annual salary to a max of $8,000 per year.
