Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people's traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.
BAC is a large and complex regional community development organisation providing services to homelands in the Maningrida region, administering some 50 grants and managing a suite of businesses and programs including: Housing, Civil Works, Essential Services, Bábbarra Women's Centre, Bawinanga Rangers, Barlmarrk Supermarket, Fuel Supplies, Mechanical Workshops, Arts and Culture/Djomi Museum, Wild Foods Café, Community Patrol, Employment Services and Money Management Services.
BAC is governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by corporation members every two years. BAC enacts policies developed at the executive level through the leadership of the CEO and the Senior Management team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate BAC road plant and equipment; Undertake general maintenance and cleaning of all equipment; Servicing of machines each day including pre-start checks; Follow traffic management procedures; Timesheets, daily plant checklists, daily running sheets, and incident reports and other associated paperwork is completed accurately and on time; Consult with Civil Manager to ensure maximum utilisation of plant and staff; Communicate appropriately with team, internal and external stakeholders; Assist mechanic in the repair and maintenance of plant and equipment work that may be required; When out in the field, keep road camp clean, be aware of your surroundings and cultural areas and minimise any impact on the environment; Ensure that all works are carried out to plans and specifications as instructed; Mentor other staff and lead by example to ensure that the core values of BAC are maintained; Any other duties as directed by your supervisor, that are within your capabilities; Safety: Take reasonable care for the health and safety of people at your place of work and co-operate with the BAC as far as is necessary to enable safety requirements to be complied with; Exercise WH&S responsibility, accountability and authority as outlined in BAC WH&S policies and procedures; Consulting with staff to ensure the identification of workplace hazards. That all risks are assessed and appropriate control measures implemented in accordance with safe work practices; Ensure staff understand and comply with BAC policies and legislative requirements; SELECTION CRITERIA: Hold appropriate HC licences and relevant tickets for plant operation of the equipment; Experience in operating machines in a road crew and civil environment; Demonstrated experience in the recording of all necessary and relevant job data and other information; Ability to lead and co-ordinate a Civil Works team to provide effective control within a small team and maximum level of output; Plan daily activities and order required materials; Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills; The ability to interact with people from other cultures, together with an understanding of how cultures can vary in different locations; Police Clearance; Medical clearance; Experience living and working in remote communities; Experience and/or knowledge of Aboriginal culture and communities and how they operate; APPLY NOW!
