Location: Sydney

The Opportunity: An exciting opportunity for transactional lawyers (banking / corporate) who are ready to do something a little bit different…
Ashurst combines the benefits of a leading Restructuring and Special Situations Group practice with a supportive and collegiate environment.
Consistently ranked Band 1 by Chambers, providing clients with unrivalled, invaluable market knowledge gained from our deep industry experience.
In recent years Australia has seen an influx of sophisticated US and global private credit and distressed debt funds whilst at the same time Australian corporates have embraced ever more complex leverage and finance funding structures (such as Unitrache and Term Loan B facilities and High Yield Bonds).
At Ashurst, the Restructuring and Special Situations Group has been at the forefront of these developments acting on most of the market leading debt and corporate restructurings in the Australian market in recent years.
As a consequence, we are seeking a junior - mid level lawyer with banking or corporate transactions experience to join our market leading team to assist with these complex restructuring matters.
Prior restructuring experience is not required or expected; however, you should have worked on technical and sophisticated corporate/banking transactions and have a desire to build your career in restructuring.
Ashurst has a proven track record in developing its lawyers, including those who do not have a traditional restructuring or insolvency background.
The vacancy represents an outstanding opportunity for a team-player with an impressive commercial approach, who is keen to build on their technical skills in this area.
About You: Prior transactional experience working on complex matters with a banking or corporate background and a desire to move into restructuring. Take day-to-day responsibility for more straightforward matters and actively progress complex matters with close partner support. Be able to demonstrate strong drafting skills. Be an effective communicator with both your team and your clients and understand your clients' needs and how best to meet them. Understand the way our business, competitors, and clients are developing and work with the business development team to use this information to develop business opportunities. What makes Ashurst a great place to work? Competitive remuneration with the flexibility to reward high performance. Flexible working. Complimentary gym memberships. Corporate health plans. A global professional development offering for all employees. An industry-leading programme that celebrates diversity and inclusion. We are committed to delivering positive impacts to our communities through our Social Impact programme, with a strong emphasis on working with First Nations people through our pro bono practice.
We aim to recruit, retain and promote the best people from the widest possible talent pools.
We are committed to offering a safe and welcoming environment for all employees to ensure they are supported to work at their best.
Beyond this, what sets Ashurst apart from others is our global strength, our drive to innovate and collaborate, and our commitment to excellence.
It is these values that make Ashurst a unique place to work.
