Speech Pathologists - Special Education - Paid School Holidays Applications Close: 18/12/2024
The speech pathologist provides assessment, treatment, and consultative services to students at BSS, promoting capacity building for staff across the school. The role is to assist the student towards maximum access to and participation in all aspects of the school curriculum, including academic areas and those related to speech, language, communication, and safe swallowing skills. The speech pathologist works with allied health assistants, teachers, education support staff, other professionals, parents, and students to develop and implement support strategies reflected in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP).
Responsibilities Independently, with clinical supervision support, provide high-quality standard speech pathology services (assessment, treatment, and consultation) focusing on assisting students to develop their speech, language, communication, and safe swallowing skills. Apply evidence-based interventions, evaluate and modify interventions, and report on outcomes. Provide documentation of speech pathology services, including progress notes, service reports, programs, health and communication support plans, and assessment reports for DIP. Work collaboratively with teachers, other professionals, parents, and students to assist in establishing Individual Education Plan (ILP) goals and support strategies. Communicate professionally with school staff, parents, and external agencies. Conduct training and instruction for school staff within areas of professional speech pathology. Attend required meetings, including staff meetings and professional learning committee meetings. Develop a professional development plan and participate in performance reviews. Adhere to privacy legislation, policies, and procedures of the Ballarat Specialist School, demonstrating a strong commitment to ongoing professional development. Participate in clinical supervision sessions and identify cases needing guidance from a senior clinician. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in providing evidence-based best practice speech pathology services consistent with Speech Pathology Australia's Code of Ethics. Ability to design and deliver professional learning for teachers and other relevant professionals in speech, language, communication, and mealtime management. Ability to use a range of assessments and develop and evaluate intervention programs. Commitment to working collaboratively with children, parents/carers, teachers, support staff, other professionals, and agencies. Willingness to engage in professional development, reflective practices, and clinical supervision. Qualifications Essential:
Bachelor or Master Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent. Eligible for Membership in Speech Pathology Australia. Current Working with Children's Check type 'E'. For further information, please contact Jess Bothe on 03 5334 1302.
