Automation Engineer

Our client, a Tier One Mining Operator based in Perth, is looking for the next Automation Engineer to join them on a 6 month contract basis.
The Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of innovation initiatives within the Automation team. The objective of this role is to assist in conceptual designs, in-house development and integrating third-party systems and components to prove concepts. As an Innovations Engineer, you will work with a team of specialist skillsets ranging from robotics, perception, machine learning, and mining autonomy to deliver high quality improvement initiatives within the business.
Responsibilities Support design, development, and validation of sensor systems to collect data from representative operational environments. Support integration of third party and/or in-house developed software components to develop perception systems to meet project criteria. Collaborate within the innovations team to develop algorithms and control logic to meet the project requirements. Support development of efficient and reusable data conversion functionalities. Participate in defining and reviewing functional and non-functional requirements and software architecture discussions. Perform code and solution design reviews to ensure that software components meet the specified standard for software quality. Skills & Behaviors Proficiency in designing and developing software for robotic systems using a combination of frameworks of C++, Python, DDS, or ROS2. Demonstrated skills in development of control systems for robotic systems or mechatronic systems. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time, priorities, and tasks effectively. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in code and documentation. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with team members and stakeholders. Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving and task execution. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines. Must Have Full working rights for Australia – Perth based candidates preferred due to in office presence. Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronic).
