Role Highlights Diverse and inclusive culture Make a difference for South Australians About the Business Our Restrictive Practices Unit supports the disability sector, clients and families by providing legislative oversight and establishing a state NDIS Restrictive Practice Authorisation Scheme to provide greater protection and safeguards for NDIS participants with behavioural support plans.
Role Details The Authorising Officer is a role within Inclusion, Supports and Safeguarding and is accountable to the Senior Authorising Officer for:
The provision of expert advice for protecting and promoting the rights of people with disability who may be subject to restrictive practices in South Australia. Supporting the education and training relating to the use of restrictive practices and promoting the reduction and, where possible, the elimination of the use of restrictive practices in the disability sector. Contributing to the development and establishment of effective partnerships with stakeholders. Key Outcomes and Accountabilities Make high quality, accountable restrictive practices authorisation decisions based on legal and practice thresholds and informed by research and practice experience about positive behaviour support. Support the development, monitoring and review of state-wide standards, practice guidelines and frameworks for people with disability in relation to restrictive practices. Maintain working relationships with relevant agencies and associations to share resources and coordinate approaches and responses to restrictive practices based on best practice within the State, in other States and internationally. Support the development of guidelines, operational policies, and procedures on the use of restrictive practices in South Australia. Operate with high level autonomy and provide high level advice relating to complex assessment, risk assessment and clinical intervention issues concerning people with disabilities subject to restrictive practices. Contribute to avoiding, reducing, and eliminating restrictive practices, in favour of positive alternatives that preserve the individual person's rights and freedoms. Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department.
The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.
Special Conditions National Police Check required. Employment-related Screening Check required. Some out of hours work may be required. Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required. Must hold a current Australian issued driver's licence (equivalent to minimum class C). Role Status: Term up to 30/06/2025. Essential Qualifications Tertiary qualification and/or current professional membership/registration relevant to Human Services field (such as psychology, allied health science, social work or relevant disability studies) or a related discipline.
