Position Overview The Department is seeking a talented and experienced Medical Officer to join the senior leadership team, to respond to current and emerging challenges to the health of Australians, support and improve our health and aged care systems, and further the government's objectives. As Chief Medical Officer , you will be a key advisor to Ministers, the Secretary and the Department, the industry across the full range of health issues confronting the Australian community.
The key duties of the position include: Comprehensive understanding of Australia's health care system, policies, procedures and key challenges. Acknowledged and renowned leadership in your medical specialty. Professional authority and credibility , building leadership legitimacy through honest and authentic relationships. Highly developed communication skills , functioning as an effective spokesperson for the Department. Pragmatic problem-solving skills to contribute to practical solutions in health care. Exceptional results orientation , resilience, and a positive approach to issue resolution. Demonstrated stakeholder engagement , effectively exchanging information, listening to, and learning from stakeholders. Ability to inspire confidence and operate effectively in dynamic and rapidly changing environments. Keen intelligence, persuasiveness and influence necessary for both formal and informal leadership. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health and Aged Care , applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made. Satisfactory completion of an Australian Federal Police criminal history check. Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required). Providing evidence of qualifications. For this role, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 Security clearance or hold a current security clearance at an appropriate level.
