The Housing and Infrastructure Branch is seeking APS 5 Policy Officers and APS 6 Senior Policy Officers to fill ongoing and non-ongoing roles. The advertised positions are based in Woden, ACT and Darwin NT; however, other NIAA office locations may be considered.
The Housing and Infrastructure Branch is a small branch with an inclusive, welcoming corporate culture. The key duties of the position include: Our ideal candidates are team-oriented, outcomes-focused, self-motivated and resilient. We work individually and as a team. The successful candidates need to be able to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively.
To be successful in the role at the APS 5 level you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
strong written and verbal communication skills ability to draft briefs, reports, correspondence and other communication materials perform evidence-based research and analysis initiate and maintain stakeholder relationships, collaborate and facilitate cooperation to achieve positive outcomes contribute new ideas and innovation to improve operations, policies and programs deliver work that supports First Nations Peoples and communities display self-awareness, cultural capability and foster respect and inclusion in the workplace commitment to continue to develop cultural competency in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples promote and demonstrate the APS values, code of conduct, and the NIAA values and behaviours. In addition to the above, APS 6 applicants will also display the following:
prepare written communication materials with limited guidance lead and manage and complete projects and work deliverables and be proactive in identifying issues and contributing to their resolution identify and implement business improvement activities always with consideration of risk contribute to the Agency's strategies and reform initiatives, including helping others connect how your work aligns to Agency plans and objectives research, critically analyse and respond to technical enquiries and policy matters leverage the expertise of others to assist in high quality responses and resolution manage and lead a small team and/or mentor and support junior staff demonstrate capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency. You'll need to be an Australian Citizen to work for NIAA.
You'll need to agree to pre-employment screening checks to work for NIAA. This role also requires a Baseline Vetting (Protected) Security clearance. We may also conduct further integrity checks during the course of your employment.

Getting to know the National Indigenous Australians Agency The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) works directly to, and supports the Minister for Indigenous Australians, to implement whole-of-government policies and programs to improve the lives of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes liaising closely with State and Territory governments, Indigenous peak bodies, stakeholders, and service providers to ensure that Indigenous programs and services are delivering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as intended.
