The Role "Future Skies, Future Eyes" Future Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Systems Program Office (FISRSPO) is seeking two professional communications engineering discipline leads, to fill the roles of Mission Engineering and Communications Discipline Lead and Ground Segment Electrical Discipline Lead within the FISRPSO Engineering Management Unit (EMU).
You will play an important role in the delivery of the MQ-4 C Triton Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) capability, a first-of-type Un-crewed Aerial System (UAS) for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) being developed in partnership with the United States Navy.
The Mission Engineering and Communications Discipline Lead is responsible for mission engineering design, operational support and mission intelligence and communications systems.
The Ground Segment Electrical Discipline Lead is responsible for integration and design engineering support and design hazard analysis relating to the MQ-4 C Ground Segment.
Both positions are accountable to the Command, Control, Communications and Computers (C4) and Ground Systems Technical Director.
As a Discipline Lead, your primary responsibilities are to: Develop specialist skills and knowledge associated with discipline and fulfil role of SME.
Lead and manage small teams to achieve assigned tasking.
Proactively prioritise tasking based on risk and required achievement of project and EMU milestones.
Manage and execute multiple concurrent activities and tasks.
Develop engineering rigour and analysis amongst team.
Promote skills and knowledge of discipline amongst team.
Interact, coordinate and influence stakeholders to achieve project and EMU priorities.
Ensure that the Team Lead is informed and supported for task status, risk, issues and opportunities.
Work together with other EMU and SPO staff to achieve collective objectives.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake work on and be provided with technical information pertaining to Defence articles of United States of America (US) origin.
In accordance with the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), any applicant who holds, or has previously held, citizenship or permanent residency of a country other than Australia will be required to declare and indicate the country or countries of citizenship or permanent residency.
Restrictions on access to Defence articles and associated technical data subject to the ITAR by dual national employees may apply.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

FISRSPO is currently responsible for two major projects set to imminently deliver the next two unique platforms to the Royal Australian Air Force fleet.
The materiel we acquire includes crewed and un-crewed aerial systems and ground control segments, training systems, and associated infrastructure and support systems.

Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidates will be highly trained and qualified engineers in the relevant discipline who have: Experience in the application of the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) or other Airworthiness regulations.
Leadership and mentoring experience of a technical focused team.
The confidence and maturity to complete complex tasks independently with minimum supervision and to delegate tasks to team members within their technical skillset.
The ability to use a large range of data to synthesize concise responses and informed engineering reports.
A passion and enthusiasm for developmental technology while applying novel engineering approaches.
A willingness to work in a dynamic and diverse environment, responsible for undertaking critical analysis of engineering data, risk management, stakeholder engagement and the development of engineering documentation.
The confidence and expertise to represent the organisation with external stakeholders to achieve project outcomes while overcoming the challenges of project complexity, working at a distance, in different time zones, and being sensitive to differing cultures and work practices.
The ability to play a pivotal role within a diverse team that comprises of APS, ADF members, and contracted staff.
The ability to evaluate that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
Experience with managing workflows, resources, and preparing work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
Security Clearance Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process.
As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
Applicants may be able to commence on a "Negative Vetting Level 1" Clearance, however ongoing employment will be subject to attaining a Positive Vetting Clearance.
Mandatory Qualifications These engineering positions require a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
