The Role
You will lead communication for the Australian Army - from strategic planning through to execution of media engagement, social media and brand management.
You will contribute to the delivery of Ministerial, whole-of-government and Defence objectives.
The Director serves as the Chief of Army's Strategic Communication Advisor, providing personalised media and communication advice.
You will:
Be required to work outside standard hours and travel in support of the Chief.
Provide Strategic Communication advice to the Chief of Army.
Ensure strategic communication objectives serve the needs of Army and are integrated and consistent with Ministerial and Departmental priorities.
Lead the Army Media and Communication team of APS and ADF.
Engage with the strategic environment and priorities, including comprehensive awareness of domestic, regional and global activities and be able to understand and translate connection and impact to Defence.
Apply high-level decision making and judgement to review, amend and clear Defence and Ministerial communication products.

The Strategic Communication Branch has multi-disciplinary communication teams embedded in Groups and Services across the Department and plays a key role shaping the narrative and perception of Australia's largest Commonwealth Department and the Australian Defence Force, building trust with the Australian community and advancing Australia's national security interests.

Our Ideal Candidate
The role performs a key leadership function, supporting a Service Chief and overseeing staff embedded across Army, providing strategic communication advice, manage resources, set priorities and develop strategies and plans against organisational objectives.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced strategic thinker and communicator with interest and knowledge of the strategic environment.
They will work independently to proactively identify issues and adjust media and communications products and activities accordingly.
Our ideal candidate has the ability to:
Provide high-level analytical and communication skills.
Lead peers, manage upwards and be accountable for quality outcomes.
Develop positive, collaborative working relationships across stakeholders in complex environments.
Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations, including Ministers and members of the Senior Leadership Group, making logical connections of emerging issues enterprise-wide.

Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Negative Vetting Level 1".
