Position Overview In an Executive Level 1 (Assistant Director, Finance) role within Cancer Australia, you will use your extensive experience to provide high-level support, advice, and technical expertise to the Chief Finance Officer relating to Cancer Australia's financial accounting responsibilities.
You will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, cash management, the preparation of reconciliations, and producing accurate and timely financial management to the Cancer Australia Executive Leadership Team and Department of Finance.
At the EL1 level, you will often take responsibility for people management, leading a team by overseeing projects and service delivery, supporting staff, and developing capability. Your work may involve producing clearly presented reports, briefs, and/or presentations that identify risks. This involves an advanced understanding and analysis of drivers and contributing factors to risk.
Engagement with internal and external stakeholders is a key feature of work within Cancer Australia. You will therefore need to build long-term relationships built on trust and accountability to ensure the success and sustainability of initiatives overseen.
The key duties of the position include: Provide high-level quality and timely financial and system accounting expertise through the delivery of value-adding services, advice, and insight to managers. Maintenance and control of all financial and asset records, and financial accounting requirements. Coordination of Annual Financial Statements conforming to Australian Accounting Standards and the Commonwealth Reporting requirements. Provide expert advice on accounting and finance issues as required and contribute to the development of Cancer Australia's financial management strategy and internal controls to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation. Managing resources to perform the role, such as exercising relevant HR and financial delegations. Supporting, mentoring, and coaching members of the team to develop their capability and responding to issues escalated by members of the team, exercising good judgment, and addressing concerns. Collecting and analysing information and data to assess risks and opportunities. Produce and/or manage the preparation of briefs, strategies, reports, and technical papers. Collaborating across teams within Cancer Australia to contribute to strategic agency-wide organisational projects and initiatives as well as liaising and building strong relationships with external stakeholders. Assisting in the development and review of new and existing policies, procedures, and templates. Qualifications and other requirements To be considered for ongoing or non-ongoing employment, candidates must be Australian Citizens . The successful candidate may be required to undergo pre-employment checks and to obtain/maintain a Baseline security clearance (minimum requirement depending on role). Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance is essential or significant experience in finance roles. Extensive experience with SAP Concur would be highly regarded.
