The Health Economics Unit is responsible for producing key outputs such as the annual Health Expenditure Australia report, the annual report on disease expenditure, health system spending per case of disease and for certain risk factors, and international health expenditure reporting to the OECD/WHO. Additionally, the unit releases reports on COVID-19 spending and Medicare funding of GP services and provides First Nations pharmaceutical and health expenditure estimates for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework Report.
The Health Economics Unit is looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent data analysis, conceptual and communication skills.
Under general direction you will:
Be a team player and work collaboratively as part of the Health Economics Unit. Conduct research, perform statistical analysis and make recommendations to support the development of estimates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Health Expenditure, and the Health and Welfare Workforce. Prepare reports and present findings to the Department of Health and Aged Care and other stakeholders. Be responsible for own work and the delivery of tasks to deadlines. Liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies as required. Undertake other duties as required. Our ideal candidate will have most or all the following skills and knowledge:
Well-developed conceptual, analytical and research skills, including the ability to undertake complex planning, research and analysis. Strong research and communication skills, including the ability to translate data and other information into high quality written work for publication and the ability to verbally communicate with various audiences. Demonstrated experience in extracting, interrogating and analysing large administrative data sets using statistical analysis software (SAS and Stata). Ability to work independently and to contribute to a small team including managing your own tasks and deliverables, attention to detail, prioritising and working according to planned timeframes. Excellent task management and organisational skills, including the demonstrated ability to prioritise and deliver high quality work within agreed timeframes or escalate issues when required. Relevant qualifications in health economics, statistics, and other relevant areas. Experience working with data relating to First Nations people and/or health workforce will be highly regarded.
