A role in FARM presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a team at the forefront of shaping financial management and accounting policy advice to the Australian Government including on its multibillion-dollar superannuation and investment funds, the Budget, financial framework and the management of the Commonwealth's Official Public Account (the Commonwealth's central bank account). This is a unique opportunity to develop a set of skills which are highly valued and sought after in the government as well as in the private sector.
The Estimates and Reporting Branch is responsible for producing the Australian Government's General Government Sector Monthly Financial Statements and the annual Consolidated Financial Statements. The Branch also produces the financial statements and other financial tables for all annual estimates updates, including for budget publications.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Monthly Reporting Team is looking for experienced financial accountants to assist in the accurate and timely preparation of whole-of-government financial reporting, including the Monthly Financial Statements (MFS) and the Consolidated Financial Statements (CFS). You will assist in analysis and briefing for senior executives and the Minister for Finance, and work closely with counterparts both within Finance and with other government entities.
This role would suit an individual who would like the opportunity to:
be exposed to a broad range of accounting and financial reporting matters, through your involvement in the some of the most complex consolidations in the Australian Government. gain experience in data analytics using tools such as Alteryx, PowerBI and advanced Excel queries, to analyse financial results and brief the Executive and Minister. build networks across the Australian Government, as you liaise with over 170 government entities; gain practical management and leadership experience, and assist in building capability through mentoring junior staff, including accounting graduates and interns. be supported to pursue professional qualifications, including being mentored by experienced Chartered Accountants (CA) and Certified Practising Accountants (CPA). gain experience and be part of high priority work within other areas of the department through short term secondments and surge opportunities, including assisting in the Budget process and the preparation of the CFS.
