91,702 - $104,753 + 15% BDCP + up to 15.4% SuperannuationCairns - QLDThe Role We are seeking a high performing, motivated and enthusiastic APS 6 Mechanical (Marine) Engineer to join the Pacific Systems Program Office (PACSPO) team.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a team of experts across a unique workforce consisting of Pacific Island Nations Crews, Australian Public Servants, and contracted engineers.
In this role, you will contribute to providing engineering and sustainment services to the Pacific Maritime Security Program (PMSP), in the sustainment of the Guardian Class Patrol Boats (GCPB), Pacific Patrol Boats (PPB), and Small Landing Craft (SLC) external maintenance periods and defect rectification as required.
Your sound technical knowledge, communication, and interpersonal skills will have a direct impact on Defence capability.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines / classifications that are critical to Defence capability.
About our Team Since the 1960s, Australia has undertaken a range of capacity-building and engagement activities in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia under the Defence Cooperation Program.
The Centrepiece of Australia's Defence engagement in the South Pacific is the Pacific Patrol Boat (PPB) Program, which involved the gifting of 22 Pacific Class Patrol Boats between 1987-1997 and the current PPB replacement program, which will provide 22 new Guardian Class Patrol Boats to participating Pacific Island Countries.
Recognising that the boats are sovereign assets of the participating nations, Australia is committed to providing a range of engineering, technical and logistics support services to ensure the ongoing operational capability of the Pacific Patrol Boat fleet, which is provisioned through the Pacific Patrol Boat Systems Program Office.
Our Ideal Candidate As an Engineer within the PACSPO, you will work in a dynamic and diverse environment requiring a number of key competencies:
Analysis: You will be adept in analysing information, probing for clarity, producing solutions, making judgements, and have the ability to think systematically.Writing and reporting: You will be someone who can write clearly, succinctly, and correctly, structuring information and convincing your audience through writing.
Your strong ability in analysing, synthesising, and presenting technical information and data in a clear and concise manner will aid key decision making.Apply expertise & technology: We are looking for people who can apply, develop & share their specialist and detailed technical expertise, whilst also understanding other Engineering disciplines and how they relate to one another.
You will hold experience (or the desire to learn) of specific technologies and their application to new and existing naval capability.Learning & research: Ability to learn rapidly, gather and understand information quickly, and ensure an organisational learning approach.Supporting and coordination: You will provide support and coordination to the highest standards of professional ethics and be uncompromising in the delivery of sound engineering advice.
You will mentor your team, sharing knowledge and experience and creating opportunities for development.
You will be capable of working well with a diverse team, managing individual strengths and weaknesses in order to deliver on collective outcomes.Following instructions & procedures: As an Engineer within Defence, you will be someone who can follow procedures and instructions, showing commitment and keeping to safety and legal guidelines.
You will have high attention to detail, along with a strong sense of self-management, the ability to manage tasks that are given to you and prioritise.Additionally, we are looking for engineers who are excellent communicators, able to work well within a diverse network of Defence and civilian government personnel and contractors.
You will possess the ability to work in a fluid environment, remaining flexible, agile, and adaptable, and support colleagues at short notice.
