Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Leader Security Operations, Security Command and/or Team Leader Personnel Security Vetting.

Security Command is responsible for ensuring the security of the AFP's people, information and assets.
This is achieved through the development of a strong security culture and building capabilities to ensure security risks are appropriately identified and mitigated.

As Team Leader of the Security Operations team consisting of intelligence practitioners and investigators, you will be responsible for driving, implementing and delivering strategies, policies and practices in support of the AFP based on high level decision-making and judgement.
You will have the capacity to think strategically, operationalise strategic direction and develop an agile approach to deliver security for the organisation.

Security Operations undertakes analysis and investigation of threats towards the AFP and its appointees, domestically and internationally.

As a Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual.
Consistent with the AFP values and Code of Conduct, leadership philosophy, organisational reform, and your Performance Development Agreement, you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet requirements of the position as outlined below.

As Team Leader of a Personnel Security Vetting (PSV) team, you will report to the Coordinator PSV and be responsible for providing leadership and direction in the day-to-day operations of a vetting team engaged in the assessment and maintenance of Commonwealth security clearances (both negative and positive vet levels) in accordance with the requirements and standards of the Commonwealth Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).

PSV teams manage and deliver a range of organisational suitability assessments to ensure the suitability of non-appointees (including contractors and secondees) engaged by the AFP.

What will you do?
As a Team Leader, you are responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the security operations team involved in the delivery of physical and personnel security, and security advice.
In doing this, you will effectively and efficiently manage resources to meet the unique challenges and priorities of the Security Command.

As a Team Leader in Security Operations, your responsibilities may include the following:
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in the identification and mitigation of security threats and enhancement of security controls; Building an operating environment that fosters security intelligence capability to triage, assess, analyse and innovate; Oversight the development of security information, intelligence and threat reporting; Directing the provision of general security advice on physical and personal security and security best practice; Applying contemporary business improvement and change management knowledge, to drive innovation, enhance service delivery and facilitate effective change; Make informed strategic business decisions relating to priorities, governance, risks, and resource management; ensuring minimal impact and pressure on Security Operations; Develop work practices and policies and ensure alignment with up-to-date policy and governance frameworks; Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and actively pursuing opportunities for cooperation and information sharing; Leading and mentoring to drive team performance, supported through clear direction, goal setting, health and wellbeing of individuals, and career development; and Modelling critical behaviours to promote a positive workplace culture.
As a Team Leader in Personnel Security Vetting, your responsibilities may include the following:
Lead a team of vetting analysts delivering high quality outcomes in accordance with the requirements of the Protective Security Policy Framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and AFP Governance Instruments.
Manage and develop the resources and capacity of your team to continue to provide high quality security clearances within defined timeframes.
Develop a strong security culture and understanding of national security issues within your team.
Ensure compliance with vetting standards and protection of AFP's interests while delivering a service that is responsive to AFP's operational objectives.
Work with other PSV leaders to promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in order to lead your team through change.
Provide leadership and direction in the effective management of complex and disputed clearance outcomes.
Represent the AFP through participation in relevant internal and external committees, stakeholder forums and working groups.
Develop and maintain pro-active relationships with multiple stakeholders both within AFP and externally across the wider vetting and intelligence communities.
Minimum Requirements You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 2 security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated contemporary experience and/or qualifications in Australian Government protective security investigations.
Experience in threat intelligence collation and assessment; Experience in leading an intelligence workforce; Well-developed analytical skills working with different systems and technologies; Experience in production of written security products, assessments and/or risk assessments.
The ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight timeframes, with minimal supervision, while delivering high level outputs and contributing to the outcome of the Security Command.
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Qualification in Government Security (Personnel Vetting) Qualifications in Security Risk Management; Qualifications in Security Investigation Additional Information National or International travel may be required.
The current vacancies are located in the ACT.
Successful applicants must be willing to relocate to the ACT at their own expense.
A merit pool of suitable candidates will be created for 12 months to fill any future vacancies.
