Representing more than 95 per cent of oil and gas production in Australia, Australian Energy Producers works collaboratively with industry, the community and Australia's national, state and territory governments to ensure the country's regulatory and commercial framework enables a positive, sustainable, and competitive operating environment for the industry.
About The Role We are expanding our team and are seeking interest from experienced Policy Advisors, ranging from Advisor to Director level expertise to work from our Canberra Office.
Reporting to the General Manager Policy, the Policy Advisor / Director role is responsible for driving the development and management of policy positions that impact upon Australia's oil and gas industry. AEP Policy experts actively participate in the advocacy of energy policy, trade and economic issues, and climate change policy matters that impact on the effective and efficient operation of Australia's oil and gas industry in achieving a net zero economy.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide expert advice on a range of strategic policy initiatives. Proactively contribute to the development of Australian Energy Producers' policy agenda and lead in its implementation. Chair and manage industry working groups. Critically analyse proposals, reports, and submissions as they relate to the industry on the east coast of Australia. Develop and execute advocacy strategies, high quality policy papers, briefs, and government submissions. Represent Australian Energy Producers in parliamentary briefings, high level meetings, ministerial and departmental meetings. Maintain strong, trusted relationships with members to identify and satisfy members' requirements. Maintain relationships with non-member industry participants, regulators, and policy makers to identify potential issues for the industry and to best position Australian Energy Producers' efforts at influencing outcomes. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Australian Energy Producers' employee policies and standards. About You To succeed in this role, you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in business, law, public policy, economics, engineering, or other related discipline. Experience in policy issues related to the Australian energy sector, preferably in the oil and gas, gas markets, and / or resources sectors on the east coast of Australia. Proven track record of successfully analysing policy issues and recommending advocacy positions and strategies to relevant stakeholder groups. Demonstrated experience in establishing, managing, and influencing a network of stakeholders including senior industry leaders, Ministers, senior government officials, and the media. Strong understanding of the State and Federal national business policy environment. Working knowledge of the Australian energy market, trade, and economic policy settings, ideally as it relates to the oil and gas industry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex policy documents and briefings. Demonstrated experience in complex issue management skills. Strong presentation skills and experience addressing stakeholder groups.
