EL 1 - Deputy Director Audio Visual Change and Engineering $115,899 - $130,733 + 10% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation The Role
Joint Capabilities Group (JCG), Cyber Operations Division (COD) is seeking a highly motivated professional leader with recent experience in providing strong proactive leadership in an ICT or Customer Service environment within a complex organisation. This position leads a small team of ICT Cyber & Service Assurance professionals providing complex to very complex commercial engagements and developing contractual agreements within an integrated workforce.
The Audio Visual (AV) Change and Engineering Team operate in a fast-paced, high exposure environment where demands on attention to detail and agility are of exceptional quality. Applicants will need to demonstrate exceptional communication skills with a high level of resilience and attention to detail.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies, and evaluating business outcomes. This will include the development, implementation, compliance with and review of policies and procedures.
This position has a high reliance on the ability to communicate in a professional, precise and competent manner whilst problem solving and delivering technical and operational outcomes to high profile stakeholders.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Directorate of Audio Visual Operations (DAVO) acts as the JCG representative for the delivery of audio visual and video teleconferencing services across the Defence footprint.
Our team comprises a mix of Australian Public Service (APS) and Contracted personnel located between several major Defence bases Australia wide.

Our Ideal Candidate
The Deputy Director AV Change and Engineering will be an exceptional communicator with proven problem-solving skills delivering outcomes to high profile clientele. They will engage with stakeholders at a high-level, and will be required to identify relevant stakeholder expectations, delivering the appropriate services to achieve operational outcomes. They are accountable under broad direction to undertake complex to very complex technical Audio Visual service provision activities.
Working independently, having some authority and discretion to investigate information from diverse sources and explore innovative approaches to support the longer-term business objectives and stakeholder needs. They will be capable, confident in problem solving, delivering solutions, presenting business cases, and developing and maintaining suitable work practices and procedures that remain in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives.
They will need to rapidly implement and drive architecturally sound, cyber assured, patterned solutions, prioritising workloads determined by key stakeholders; plan, implement and review AV and Video-Teleconferencing (VTC) pattern/design provisions in order to meet operational and business requirements; will be heavily involved in the ongoing management of AV operational facilities, ICT conferencing solutions and ad-hoc VIP AV requests.
They will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with best practice and standards for audio visual, legislative frameworks, government strategic decision-making, and Defence's mission and policy requirements. They are Defence's Audio Visual Design Authority and are centric to the technical governance, integrity, and security of the Defence information environment.
This position leads a team that provides the governance of technical solutions, patterns, DAHL (Defence Approved Hardware List) maintenance, AV implementation and control within the information environment, and contribute heavily to the value for money (VFM) assessments conducted for Defence AV installations and projects. They will additionally lead the AV Change Management function to facilitate the provisioning of ICT requests, ensuring they are suitable and cyber assured solutions that are being deployed within various classified information environments.
They will use their initiative and experience to analyse, plan, review, and adjust work activities to deliver business outcomes. They will undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence. They will gather and communicate detailed technical, operational, professional, and procedural advice in relation to complex AV and VTC patterns, designs, projects, and related activities.
