About our opportunity: This process is being used to fill 2 immediate positions. Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool to fill similar vacancies for up to 18 months in ACT; NSW; NT; QLD; SA; TAS; VIC; WA.
The Vape and Tobacco Operations and Coordination (VTOC) is a new section established to provide the strategic, operational and tactical oversight of cross jurisdictional health, whole of government and intra-agency coordination of compliance activities that combat illicit tobacco and vapes. It will work alongside the ABF Illicit Tobacco Taskforce (ITTF) which is focused specifically on the intersection of illicit tobacco with serious organised crime.
The VTOC engages with key internal, external and offshore stakeholders to ensure available ABF capacity and capability is effective at combatting illicit tobacco and vapes. The VTOC will also coordinate, monitor and report on ABF border enforcement controls that counter the availability of illicit vapes and vaping products.
Our ideal candidate: The Inspector roles play a significant leadership role in the VTOC. Each Inspector is responsible for leading their respective team to deliver against their remit whilst building a supportive positive team culture within the VTOC. As the Inspector, you will build networks within the ABF and external and will represent the VTOC capabilities to other stakeholders involved in the disruption of illicit tobacco and vapes.
The key duties include: As an Inspector in the VTOC you will report directly to the Superintendent VTOC and work with a high level of autonomy under broad direction. You will:

Lead, manage and develop your team to deliver VTOC outcomes in a positive and productive environment. Lead the development and implementation of respective team plans and activities to support the overall VTOC priorities. Collaborate across the Branch, Division and ABF on the development and implementation of illicit tobacco and vape related processes and operational activities. Translate VTOC's strategic direction into team outcomes. Coordinate and prepare high-level written material for Senior Executives on illicit tobacco and vape matters. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC). Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
