The Chamber was established in 1885 to support the growth and success of the business community in NSW and the ACT and to represent and champion the business community's interests and concerns with government. In 1999, the firm (then called Australian Business Lawyers) was set up as an independent workplace and commercial law firm. It continued to service the NSW Business Chamber as a valued client but sought to grow its client base.
